chefwong,
I finally picked up my 04 X5 4.4 today which has the same interior color and wood trim as your photos and I really want to install the avic-z1 unit.

How about altering your first pic to this:

I think the thing that makes the full all black bezel look odd is the wide blank area to the sides of the unit. I was also thinking of inlaying the unit a little, this way, some of the side area can be a gradual slant it and adding the horizontal grove to match the contour of the dash. I have no idea how to draw this, but the idea came from this one:

NextGen - Sorry but I suck at Photoshop. I had a friend do it for me since I was having a hard time visualizing how the trim would look against the HU ? Personally, I don't like any of them at all at this point but if I had to choose, I'm going with the black for now.

I have seen plenty of well executed black trims - but now that I think about it, the interior of the car is black as well so everythings just flows right.

Well.....everything is a compromise at times.
hey sorry took so long, i been moving these past week. but i can post pics later today, and maybe hijack your post, just a lil bit. lol i need some help on filling the edge around the wood trim. fyi dremel works great.

heres, some pics, not 100% but there.. i need to remove the leather and resand the right side, wood trim does not sit flush, and come up with away to cover up the inside and sides since the cut was not perfect/exact. i was thinking of using stich leather... and inserting it between, the stereo and the wood trim. to fill the gap..any ideas would help...thnks

How about the first pic with the wood cut out but the trim in black. I see you have a beige interior,it would probably look better with the black interior but give it a shot
Nevermind just saw the P'shop did by rlouis great job that what I was talking about
