MP3 Audiotext

Ok, so I finally got the radio module up to date and got a new CD changer installed. I burned an MP3 CD with iTunes 7 and it plays as expected. I do get the Audiotect option when I hit Info. I do not get any text. it just says TR 00-001 and plays. Also, the Select Button doesn't do anything. Any thoughts?

I had similar problems in my X3 - solved it by converting ID3 tags to version 1,1 within iTunes before burning the CD. Now all ok - I can navigate between folders (albums) and see Artist and Song on Nav Screen.

Thanks davidr,

I did try making a MP3 CD with a range of ID3 tag versions, but this didn't work at the time. It may be that I confused the poor thing and it decided not to play! I keep meaning to try again but never seem to get around to it. Some have had success using the default ID3 tags (v2.3?) on iTunes.

I was dropping my wifes 330ci conv, off at the dealer this am for a service and asked what the display problem could be. Blank looks all round! MP3? ID3? Audiotext? I was clearly speaking alien! After much explaining they reconed the CDC wasn't sending the info to the head unit. (Since the audiotext option is only available when playing the MP3 discs the CDC must be sending something to the head unit.) Much more info on this site.

I will try the ID3 v1.1 tags again.

How do you convert the tags to 1.1?

Here is what I found works for me

You must use ID3v1.1.

I used tagscan to convert them, links and details at bottom of that page

If you are using iTunes, highlight the track(s) you want to convert, click on the advanced menu, select convert ID3 tags and select the version you want.

I tried a new 1.1 tag disc yesterday, still no joy! I'll have to try something else.

Also, nothing happens with I hit the Select button, with these ID3 2.x cd's. It works fine on audio cd's and brings up the search options.

Same here. I tried a new version of Mac OS X V 10.4 and iTunes 7.0.1 and conveted all the songs to ID3V1.1. It produced the same results: a perfectly listenable MP3 CD without audiotext. Also, the Select button still has no functionality during MP3 CD playback.

My X5 was built 08/05 and the CDC installed by the delaer in 11/05 when I took delivery, so my problems could be that I just don't have the right kit. (Although I can play MP3 and do get the audiotext option) It sounds as if your set up is new so there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

On the "bimmer" site the author uses another program to convert the ID3 tags, could iTunes be the problem?

Unless I can try a disc that I know works in another BMW I won't know if it's the dics or the gear, (or me!)
