The 12 has more presence. It seems louder and boomier. I have a Diamond Audio D310 in currently on 400 watts rms. It plays low and loud and will hit pretty good. If you want something to fill in the low end of the stock system I think a 10 is sufficient. Mine will play with authority on all types of music and still provide enough "bump" for my tastes.
