Digital DSP, Sirius and CD Changer?

Does anyone know if it's possiblet to have Digital DSP, a CD changer that uses the digital coax, and still do Sirius? I'm concerned about the connections from the Sirius to the CD Changer since on a non-DSP setup, both the 6 and 3 pin connectors are connected from the Sirius unit to the CD Changer -- but what happens with the DSP CD Changer?

What year is your X5?

It's a 2000 with Digital DSP, but has an updated tuner installed that supports Sirius and AUX. I've checked the back of the changer and it uses the coax.

Is the 6-pin cable present also? If not, we can still help. I will also need to know if you are Business CD or Navigation equipped.

It's a 2000 X5, with factory navigation wiring. Upgraded flat pin tuner, DVD MkIV, 16:9 widescreen. CD Changer with live coax cable, so I assume digital DSP since there's no six-pin connector and the CD Changer works. I have a -140 receiver, and these two harnesses: 84 11 0 141 977 and 84 11 0 141 978. But, because it's a coax in the back of the CD changer, I don't think I can keep the CD changer in this setup so the latter cable probably won't get used.

Don't see a 6-pin, but even if there was one, wouldn't it be dead?

Yes, but we would make it live for Sirius interaction, here are the pieces you would need:

Also, do you know the production date on your radio tuner? If not, we will need to perform a software check to make sure it is compatible for Sirius.

I just went out to the back of my X5 to take a look, and the only connectors I see that aren't directly connected to the amp or round connectors (which I believe are for the X5) are the 3 pin connector for the changer, the coax connector and a black 12-pin connector.

Do you know what this 12-pin connector is for, and what do you think my options are?

Sirius will not use the coaxial connector, but instead use the Analog cable I linked before. Did you get a production date from your radio?

If not, we can perform a software check. Give me a call tomorrow morning from your X5 and I'll run down the procedures.

Thanks Tom. It's a 65 12 6 943 449 tuner out of a 2005 X5. The tuner's not currently installed in the car, I have the install planned for Friday/Sat, but wanted all the pieces in hand to have a smooth install. It looks like it might be produced in the 38th week of 2004 (KW: 38/04).

To recap, the cable that you linked to eliminates the ability to have a CD changer, but enables the use of a Sirius tuner? Or it enables you to keep the CD changer and simply use the 6 pin analog connector for Sirius -- even though there's no 6 pin connector in the trunk?

That's good news, the radio is compatible.

The radio may switch the system to analog DSP, we'll find out when you perform your install. If you remain in Digital DSP mode, the CD Changer will use the coaxial port and the Sirius will use the 6-pin for audio. If you go to analog DSP, both Sirius and the CD Changer will share the 6-pin audio port, and the coaxial port will shut down.
