I don't see any way to get the 4'/100mm mid into the dash location.
I don't feel very good about getting 3" dome mids into that location, actually. The 28mm Dynaudio MD100 tweets have about 3mm of clearance all the way around, and they are 62mm across from edge to edge. That's about 68mm, or 2-7/8". DLS makes a kit with a 6" midbass, a 2.5" dome mid, and a 28mm tweeter, and I think I'd have to grind the deges of the dome mid flange to get THAT in there. That's basically why we used a 28mm soft dome with a low mechanical resonance and crossed it over at 2500 - to fill in the front vocal presence. You can do that with DLS, Dynaudio, Morel, a/d/s/, and some others. |

Thanks!
I wasn't sure of the size of the speakers in the dash. Thanks for all the info on the other post as well, it will come in handy when I tear into my X and start getting my stereo done. |

I don't believe a mid is necessary in the X unless you really feel as though imaging is compromised w/o. I tested (in the stock speaker locations) the...
JLs: Just not as good as there subs and a bit muddy. Boston Pro: EXCELLENT!!! Love them, just did not want to pay $550... though I am reconsidering. DDD and acoustic/unplugged recordings like Tracy Chapman, Nirvana, Lauren Hill, etc. sound INCREDIBLE. MB QSD: Ahhhhhhhh (drooling) love the sound, especially jazz and vocals... but one grand is not in the budget right now. MB Premium: the ones I run right now, good imaging, bright and clear. Not good at handing alot of bass so I run the amp crossover at 175 and send the rest to the JL 10" sub. Focal Utopia: Loud and handle bass wonderfully but the sound is overly bright and a bit artificial. Dynaudio and Morel: Speaker of the Gods... if you can afford them... GET THEM! I took them out of my X imediately after sampling them... I didn't want to fall in love and have to buy them. |

So how do you go about changing the dash mounted speakers? Do you have to dismantle the whole dash?
