![]() So, I'm wondering how much my Nav unit might fetch in the used market so I can factor that into the budget for the new setup. Mine has the cassett deck behind the screen, probably b/c the first owner opted for the 6 CD changed in the rear and didn't feel like doubling up on CD players. I want to install a Sirius kit, an iPod Kit, play movies in dash and in the headrests, play ipod videos, and easily search by artist, album and playlist using a touch screen. I also like the idea of Sirius Traffic integrated with the Navigation System. So far it looks like aftermarket units seem to have a very big advantage when it comes to doing all of this at once, which makes sense b/c that's their sole focus. Thanks for your help! |

Nav screen would probably fetch about $600 to $700 (example - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-B...m180242385429& )
The MkIV nav drive would probably fetch about $550 to $650 (example - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-M...m270237046487& ) Keep in mind that if you remove your nav unit then you'll lose the ability to update and control your on-board computer functions, date, time, etc.

I think I read somewhere that you can re-mount the MID in the rear so that date and time can be adjusted.....but would that mean remounting the entire double din nav unit somewhere in the rear (and obviously not reselling it) just to see the correct date and time in the instrument cluster? Right now the date and time only displays on the Nav screen, and not in the cluster, so perhaps I can just leave it like that and not see the wrong date and time.

Date and time can be displayed in the cluster by cycling through the OBD items (press the stalk button to do so). You can also select which OBD items you would like to see displayed by holding in the stalk button until the display appears on the nav screen. The order you check them is the order they will be displayed.
Also note that the X5 nav screen never came with a CD player behind the screen, only a cassette. Only the late model E46 (3-series) had this available.

Good deal, so if I set it not to display in cluster, and remove unit, will it still
not display the soon-to-be-wrong date and time?
aside: I'm not sure what years the MkIV is backwards compatible with (is 2001 too early?) but if it works that sounds great. I'm not sure if I should jump on it now, or wait a bit until all the aftermarket units come out with blu-ray and the next generation of features...but I'll know soon. |
