Guys.. I am glad you both enjoyed it

If you want speaker upgrades just do the tweeters first (trust me on this)
You will feel huge difference
Midbass and midranges are not that important.

and ....

......don't laugh, but Walmart's fabric department, (of all places!), sells a $3.00, 50" x 70" fleece throw! It's brand name is 'Main Stay'. They are sold in rolled up bundles like mini blanket rolls. If you can't find it, I have enough to cover several hatch grilles.....just let me know. So what design/technique are you coming up with?

I was thinking about just stretching some of this material over a cut out in the hatch door but, thinking ahead, I'm figuring it may be more practical, in my situation, to cover a wire mesh across the cut out as this can help protect the subwoofer from any bumps from future pieces of cargo.

...I think you can order the (4-pin molex) Alpine amp connector from their parts distributor, PacParts, Inc., ask for Melissa Marin, (Customer Service Representative) (800)421-5080 Ext. 154 - (800)782-5747 Fax. It's their 'Speaker Input Cord' - P/N 01E11136S01
http://www.pacparts.com/model.cfm?CF...tion=list_part

Looks like we are thinking the same way...

I went to Home Depot and found a wire mash, they sell it by piece & and I think it was around $12.00 The funny thing is that there is a picture on the box/cover with a dog sitting near the rabbit cage so looks like this is the one of purposes for this wire mash. It looks nice and more important - strong. I thought about putting it on the back of the cover to protect the sub and stretch the fabric over the front of the cover.

I have WallMart right near my office so I will check it out today.

Thanks for the Alpine link. I will give them a call.
Right now I am using my RCA converter, adjusted the channels output on it to the max - sounds much better.

Thanx again Essam! You've definately made your mark in the halls of X5 history! I motion Obama put you on his short list for 'International SAV/SUV Modifications Coordinator'!

Do you recommend only the BSW tweeters?

An audiophile friend says, "It's not going to make a difference in sound quality, as they're both connected to the same source...the low level factory speaker wires. High level RCA's right from the radio would make a difference."

I just returned from Home Depot before reading your post.....the wire mesh that I saw was outside, brrrrr. What section did you find yours? I couldn't find any plastic mesh, either. Then again, I could just 'stretch' the fabric tightly over the opening....

I'm from MoTown! I bet you're going to enjoy the project. I just followed the tips in these posts. I've have never done any carpentry work before but I just measured and cut and then assembled....though I did have several repeat cuts.....but the installation and wiring went w/o a hitch and I have even less electronic experience - I never even knew what a 'Butt connector' was before this project!

The real kudos go to Essam, Carlgo and all the others who came together and shared their experiences.....
