Hey sorry to hear you're getting rid of the X. I just upgraded to an '03 E53 from an '01 E46. In my E46 I had an Alpine MRP-M500 which I'm planning to put into my X5. From your guide it sounds fairly straight forward, however for the past year and a half, I've been using the RCA connector inputs for my amp. I know my amp originally came with the speaker-level molex connector that looks exactly like it does in your original post, but I lost them. I've spent a day looking for these connectors but I just am not sure what they are called. Can I pick these up in Radioshack, or a similar store? Thanks for your help guys.

I believe you can order one of those 4-pin molex connectors from Melisa @ (800)421-5080 Ext. 154 - (800)782-5747 Fax I just installed a new Alpine MPR 500 after I determined it was my Alpine MPR 350 - bought used - that was the culprit of the sudden 'no sound output' from my system.....This amp sure sounds sweet! You'll only have to barely turn the amp's adjustment knobs to tune it.

Thank you for the quick response. She was very helpful. Hopefully my install will be a snap once I receive the connector .

Hi All,

After reading this threat many a times, I decide to build my own Essam Box for the X5.

I am thinking of applying a good coat of polyurethane to seal the box, and then glue black carpeting to the exterior.

I decided to go with the Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 10" Sub which has the same specs as the one recommened on this thread, but bumps the watts to 300rms. I am coupling this with the Alpine MRP-500 Amp. Seems like a good match.

Has anyone else used a 300Watt sub in this box?

I am also planning/trying to install the amp on the front/lower part of the box, below the sub, as there seems to be enough room for it there. Or I will try to fit it under the spare tire, in the compartment where the radio module also resides, hopefully it will not get too hot in there. i just dont have the room on the compartment on the left side of the car. I have way toom much there (Nav Comp, CD Changer, Intravee II, Alpine Ai-net switch, Alpine Ipod Adapter, Nav-tools Video Module, and WD TV unit with a 500GB Drive) So, no room, lol.

I am planning to spray some Cascade VB-1S PRO Quiet Kote Damping Spray on the interior of the box, and/or use some damping fiber fill. Anyone use any of these or similar products with good results?

Cant wait to put this all together and try it out, my thanks to Essam for starting this project and sharing his results.

Hi All,

Finally got it all installed, worked out awesome. I finally have bass in my X . I love it.

Again, thanks Essam.

Couldn't have done it without the recommendations on this thread.

My wife loves the bass, she was actually happy with the install and the end result.

Now to install my Invision headrests, and rearview cam, oh and pick up some tweeters and maybe some midbass speakers.

Any recommendations on tweeters?

Due to the very specific way the BMW amp works, I strongly suggest using the BSW tweeters and mid-ranges at the least. And that includes the rear door.

And, really, the whole system with the mid-basses as well is the best choice for those who do not want to completely gut the entire BMW system and start over.

The other alternative is to completely gut the BMW system and start over again.

A great tweeter will work terrifically in other cars, but may or may not pair up well with the BMW amp and will require fabrication to mount and wire it up besides.

Depends on what kinds of highs you like. I like MB's because they're bright, but some don't like that. You can buy just about any brand of midbass tweeter combo form ebay, crutchfield.com, etc for good prices...you just need to read reviews of what kind of highs you like.

Specific way? Why does everyone try to make BMW sound like they're the holy grail of everything they do...speakers, engines, transmissions, etc? Have you even used or listened to BSW tweeters? I don't even know who BSW uses as a supplier, nor probably do a lot of people...how do you know you're getting the proper tweeter style for your listening type or best RMS power handling? You're really making this sound more complex than it is.

I've installed MB's in my M5 w/o a single issue. Before I took the time to remove the old and install the new speakers (if you can turn a screw, than it's easier than you think) I wired just the crossovers to the stock speakers and that alone made the stock speakers sound better. Finally installing the MB's was like night and day.

I've completely rewired my 14 speaker 740iL w/ aftermarket amps, deck, subs, etc. Before I took the time to rewire the car, I installed an aftermarket deck and ran it through the stock amp and installed MB's in there also using the stock locations. Speakers are universally made, so as long as you get the correct size for your doors, dash, etc (ie 5.5", 6", 6x9", etc) it'll drop in w/ little to no effort. Unless you're drastically changing speaker size, the only thing you'll have do is crimp female connectors onto your stock wiring.

Really...changing speakers is that easy...don't make it harder than it is.
