Yes, I would decrease the upper thickness of the box from 13.5cm to 12cm.. I did not count the height of the sub itself so the door does not close comfortably. I am trying to find a way around instead of doing a new box.

I agree, this is the optimum design ... but I did not find any dimensions for it ... also my sub does not need that much enclosure volume ... they say from 9.9 to 19.9 liters and the recommended is 12.7 liters ... my box roughly gives 13.8 liters. That's why I did not want to go into the hassle of this multi angled box.

1.5 cm is a fair amount, too much to just remove some of the plastic bracing inside the door? You could cut a 1.5 cm section from the back of the box and glue it back together.

Looking forward to the completed project. I like the simple design, even though I have the means to build the complex version. Pioneer did some interesting engineering to make a 10" woofer work in a small box.

That's exactly what I am planning to do... and I am gonna cut it at angle because the problem is from the near side behind the tail light. That means I will keep the thickness at 13.5cm at the far side and will make it 11.5cm on the near side.

I absolutely agree... I am amazed each time I turn the system on and each time I change a track! The bass amount is almost like my Bose home theater system which has a really HUGE sub.

What about this Pioneer TS-SW2541D 10" sub:
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-SW2...A3ADWMNXT7FS32

Is there a big difference? This has the a frequency response of 20 ~ 1,000Hz and 250W vs. 20Hz ~ 144 Hz, 200W for the Pioneer TS-SW251.

Which has the better frequency range? I'm more concerned with range than power/loudness.

It certainly seems that the 2541 does give you the range and a slightly greater power handling ability. This may not make a difference in the set-up we are discussing here, but couldn't hurt, either.

Crutchfield doesn't even list the 251, so perhaps that is an older model now. I ordered it anyway, for better or worse.

the 2541 is the older one according to Pioneer catalogue.
As I stated on the other thread, when it comes to frequncy response for the sub, all you should care about is the lower end. The other end is covered by the other 10 speakers in your car.

Zerochief has the 2541 check his thread from the link on the first post

Do you leave the sub un-covered or do you have the hatch in place covering the sub?

I have both options ... bass sound is better when the sub is un-covered so I leave it open unless I am having luggage in the trunk ... in this case I am putting the hatch cover back to protect the sub

What 'fill' (deadening) material did you use to keep your woofer box away from surrounding objects? When you turn your system on, how would you describe the bass sound? Does it produce that bone rattling thump sound or another type of sound? In what way do you compare this sound w/ your home Bose system?

As soon as I get my system up and going, I'm going to try it out with some Bob Marley (Concrete Jungle, So Much Trouble in the World, etc.), that will be 'The Bass Test' for me.

Thanx alot, man, for this thread, you've helped hundreds, if not thousands, of us X5 owners!
