So what was the final answer here?

I have the BSW subwoofer install document and it points out to tap the signal where the wires connect into the sub. This is a speaker level signal and they use a LOC on it. But it does not explain if the signal is filtered at this point by the amp when the volume increases.

I also read the one on the home page and it doesn't mention this either. I honestly didn't know this was an issue until I read it here. There are tons of posts in this forum about installing a sub but no one ever complains about this. I find that strange.

i certainly did not expect that when i put a woofer in my e39, its either too boomy down low and perfect up top, or perfect down low but not very "there" higher up

i just picked up an x5 this weekend with an aftermarket stereo, so i wont have to worry about the dsp loc bs, i would prefer another 16:9 with dvd/2009 disc, but it would probably be too much work to put one in

That is where you will want to tap, once you use the LOC it will setup the signal how it needs to be. Just connect the RCAs to your AMP and you will be off and running! It will get louder as you turn up the volume

Let me know if you have ANY other questions!

It's simply just the most practical and proven method to add more bass to your stock system (and it sounds pretty good). Technically the DSP amp may be filtering the signal a bit. However a good quality amp and sub make the best of it, especially with a remote bass level controller.

Whenever you turn it up loud, you pretty much lose the whole purpose of the sub because the factory DSP filters out the lower frequency signals. For just a few more bucks, I will be adding a 4-channel amp shortly to power the satellite speakers as well and bypass the DSP altogether.
UPDATE: I upgraded my front satellites to MB Quarts several months ago, and was finally going to get around to installing the amp this weekend. Since it was hot here (100F+), I decided to sit in airconditioned comfort in front of my computer first and give the DSP one last chance. I happened across the following:

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...gs-bmw-x5.html

What a huge difference these settings made! I used the instructions as-is, and there was a noticeable improvement, but still not quite to my liking. So I then adjusted the 80hz EQ to a completely flat setting and kicked the echo down a notch or two..........perfect!

I am now much happier with the subwoofer. Is it worth $600+ (including the amp)? Probably
