I just tinker with these cars out of hobby interest. I have a number of friends and family members who own BMWs, so I learned a lot from mine and through theirs. I became a bit of a BMW A/V & telephone system expert by doing every conceivable upgrade to my car.

I have a similar problem, couple years ago i got the BSW stage 1 kit, about like 6 months ago the front right speakers (tweeter, mid, bass driver) stopped working all together. Called BSW and they think its something with my amplifier. Now like three days ago they finally came back on which completely shocked me, but stopped working again the next day. Not only that, but today as i leave my house i notice the left front speakers weren't playing, so now there is only sound coming from the rear. They came back on later like an hour ago, but the right side is still out. So I'm guessing its my amplifier thats messed up? I have non dsp, bsw stage 1, dice silverline pro. Where is the factory amp located and is this a common problem?

sound from one side of speakers

Hello Hunds02

I have the DSP
I think the Amps is located on the right side of the Trunk
The Radio head unit is in the left side under the Nav and CD Stacker
Mine had been out for the last couple of weeks.
I been on a business trip so,, have not been using my X5
but i need to get mine repaired
Been told that most times its the connections that get loose
not sure

Hope this helps

Thank you
Jim

Recently the rear right speakers (midranges and bass driver) stopped working. Sometimes they work when i turn the car on, then shuts off after like 10 seconds, most of the time now its just off. So i only have music from the left side of the car. I looked into the amp and noticed that the connection is corroded.

I noticed also that connection that goes into the amp with all the wires is sort of corroded too, how do I go about replacing that? Any help is greatly appreciated

That would mean you have water dripping on the amp, likely from the sunroof cassette either overflowing due to clogged drains or the drain hose came loose in that corner.

Many threads on here about finding/fixing leaks.

Would either need to clean the living hell out of the pins in the connector or replace all the pins in the connector. The problem that makes it tough is that you can't really find connector cleaning brushes for pins that small...

But otherwise the plastic connector housing doesn't need to be replaced, only cleaned off.

Ok Great to know, it would have sucked if I had to connect all those wires to the pins.. Will 99% isopropyl work well? Or maybe electric contact cleaner.

Contact cleaner is naturally the better choice as it is aerosol propelled. You just gotta do all you can to get the corrosion out of the pins.
