HELP!... 2001 6-Disc CD Changer w/DSP

(edited: my apologies; I meant to post this on the 'stereo' forum section)

I have a 2001 6-Disc CD Changer (BMW brand that came with the X5).
I have premium sound system with DSP and NAV.

My CD Changer stopped functioning. In fact it won't eject the magazine, either. The NAV/Monitor display says "NO MAGAZINE."

Dealer is asking for $750 to replace it (they don't do repair). My extended warranty coverage covers only up to $250 in repair. Warranty folks is telling me to bring it elsewhere so they could remove the unit, send it off to get repaired.

So, If I do this REPAIR at a 'qualified' stereo repair shop, is there any NAV/Monitor/Display/DSP issues that I should be aware of that may come up that could further 'cause more headaches/problems???? Just wondering if I should just bite the big one and get a replacement changer at the dealer instead to be on the safe side.

Any insight and help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

My advice is, if you must have a CD changer, just pick up a replacement unit on eBay. They run about $250 to $300 there.

Alternately, take advantage of the situation and dump the CD changer in favor of an iPod installation using the Ice Link Plus interface from Dension. You won't regret it.

I also got another recommendation to go for the icelink. I am going to look more into that. Thanks for the help!

replacement unit from dealer ?

I know your changer is the trunk unit...but see link below, they might have similar 'core exchange' for your changer.

IPod and IceLinkPlus is the way to go though as suggested by UCrew.
