Hey Tom could you elaborate a little more on the radio interface kit.. I currently have a DICE that doesn't have as clean of output as I'd like, a lot of the time there is static or whine in the sound. Also, I would be upgrading to the mediabridge for the bluetooth option.

There is no difference in audio, since it is still being taken from the HU.

However, the shorter cable length of the radio interface harness would eliminate any noise from vehicles that are prone to EFI.

just bought this kit, going to attempt an install this weekend.
wish me luck as im not very technical!

are there any tools ill need beside a screwdriver?
i want to have the ipod cable come out of the ashtray in front of the gear stick.
and possibly have the mediabridge in the trunk.

opinions?

ok so i installed this today......
initial thoughts and impressions.


the good
its amazing and super easy to install.
im not very technical and dont know my way around the workings of a car, but the whole thing took me less than an hour.
super easy.

i had a dension ice link in my X5 previous to the media bridge which i removed today (put in by "professionals"). so thats what im comparing it to.
sound quality over USB is second to none. its better than my dension, not sure why though......? but its a marginal difference.

The bluetooth functionality has my wife in love with the car all over again.

the bad
1-the most worrying thing is the audio quality over a2dp. i can definately hear a slight echo, which is ruining my music for me! i tried a different iphone and ipad, updated the software on the mediabridge. i also toggled the EQ settings on the car and the iphone but no joy, over bluetooth audio quality is noticeably worse than over USB, almost to a point where i cant bare the bluetooth audio. which is a big shame.
although, my wife has not noticed it!

2-this is a bit annoying. when skipping tracks on USB it makes my nav unit come out of map view and sticks on track/song view, meaning i have to manually put it back to map view. over bluetooth audio it inconsistently does this, hence why i would prefer to use bluetooth for music.

3-the voice over on the phone is kinda pointless. when my phone rings the voice reads out the first 2 digits and then it starts ringing.

4-couldnt quite figure out how to get TTS to work for text messages.

5-the manual states that my nav unit should display song name and then playlist name, but it doesnt. only shows song name and uses a tiny part of the screen to do so.

wish list
1-primarily for my issues above to be resolved.

2-for there to be voice dialling

3-for track names to be displayed in my cluster display

4-for the TTS to be able to say the contacts name rather than reading out the first couple digits of the number.


All in all would i reccomend it? yes, if you want to install it yourself and you get it cheap. (under £200) otherwise it may be best to stick to a parrot bluetooth kit and a dension kit as i had.

PS-i should also add, i may have a faulty unit but im not so sure as the echo issue is apparent in a 3 series i was able to test it in over BT.

This actually works for me. If I hold the voice command button down on my steering wheel it brings up the "say a command" menu on my Android phone. From here I can voice dial numbers or names and it automatically calls and connects.

On a side note, I'm also using a program called Setting Profiles, which starts Pandora as my BT connects to the MediaBridge and kills it once disconnected. It really takes my smartphone/bluetooth to the next level! I just keep my phone in my pocket and everything works perfectly.

Also for those installing the microphone in the future, I found that installing it on top of the rear view mirror is both discrete and very functional. I wanted to install it in the location of the OEM microphone, but the OEM plastic grill limits all sound going into the supplied DICE microphone. On top of the mirror is almost entirely out of sight and my callers say I am very audible. I'll upload a picture in a bit.

hi all,

Just got the media bridge installed and love it. All works great, ipod, blue tooth, only thing I can't get to work is the internet radio, pandora which plays from my blackberry torch. It recognizes the phone but nothing plays...any suggestions?

I have two questions:

If I have the trunk-mounted 6 disc changer and I want to install the mediabridge in the trunk, do I lose the use of the disc changer?

Would the kits be the same for a 2000 E39 M5 w/ Nav and a 2003 X5? I currently drive the M5 and would like to buy the mediabridge now but will be switching over to the X5 within a year. If I could move the mediabridge with me when the time came that would be great.

For the first question, yes, you will lose the use of the disc changer.

Sorry I don't know the answer to the second question but if I had to guess I would say it is the same unit. Mind you that you may need to optional DSP adapter depending on how your X5 is equipped.
