Alternative Aux Input

I've been wanting to do aux input on our 2001 w/ nav+dsp for a while now, but it seems cost prohibitive to get a new radio module just for this. I'm considering an option like this:

http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...MX_V1_DSP.html

Am I correct in assuming that I'd lose the changer with this though?

That is correct.

Soundgate makes a switcher that allows changer retention, but the one time I tried it in an X5 it was noisy as heck and Soundgate seemed to think it was not fixable...

1. I need to buy an Alpine Changer for this set-up right?
-Will the sound quality be as good as it is with the oem changer?

2. Will I need to buy the cable going from the changer to the blitzsafe module?

3. What is that round connector in the bottom right corner of the picture?

4. Are there any downsides to this set-up?

5. Anyway to get text from an mp3 changer on the screen?

6. Will an Alpine changer mount ok in the factory location?

TIA

Vinuneuro,
I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of the Alpine changer as they're built rock solid. Most problems that you would most likely encountered (noises, etc...) are due to the converter interface itself. I've heard complaints about both, Blitzsafe as well as Soundgate. But I have to say that for the 2 years that I have my Alpine/Soundgate set-up, no problems to complain about (well...may be the text thing is a minor gripe).

To answer some of your questions:

1. I have the Alpine CHA-S634 changer with the soundgate adapter and that setup is working great for me. The quality of the Alpine changer should be as good if not better than OEM (the OEM changer is also made by Alpine).

5. At this time, getting MP3 ID3 tag onto the screen isn't possible. But someone is working on a solution, though. Check out this link => http://www.intravention.co.uk/new_www/

6. The Alpine CHA-S634 changer should mount perfectly in the factory location.

I'm glad to hear that your experience has been positive so far. This new product looks awesome. I sent the guy an email to join the beta testing group.

I'm not using soundgate though.

All that does is allow integration of an aftermarket alpine CD-C into a DSP car. Doesn't get you aux in as far as I can see.

I was SUGGESTING you use the soundgate device, not assuming you already had it. AUXBMW.

Sorry that was the wrong link; it's fixed now. You said that you got a lot of noise with Soundgate device. What is the advangtage of soundgate over blitzsafe?
