So how much would a brand new OEM 10/02 radio/cd unit cost me?

It depends on whether you want the AUX/Sirius version or the new version with MP3 playback. We can get you either version if needed.

I fixed mine!

My radio already had a black harness being used (the one with the 2 wires in it)

In the instructions, they ask you to retrofit that one instead.

To my dismay, after installing it, I had the same problem as you.

BUT THEN!, I realized the problem.

In the diagram they provide you with, the first 2 harness slots (on the right) are blacked out. This is the location of the existing wires.

When i originally installed it, I thought the "X" was the existing wires so my connectors were literally 1 space to the right, too far.

DUH DUH DUH!...

Once i switched them over to the left 1 space, it WORKED!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

:xoutpost:

p.s. you can install a radio module from a 2003 or newer and this will allow you to have AUX. That's what I did on my 2001 X5 and it works great.

Accorind to this instruction:

It looks as if, anyone with such Nav Screen would be able to use Aux-Input without connecting it to radio module, no?

Not particularly, the 09/2002+ models will have the AUX prewiring. If you retrofit a later radio tuner to your pre 09/02 X5, it will need to connect directly at the radio tuner underneath the spare tire.

A less costly alternative would be to go with the DICE iPod kit, even if you have no plans on using an iPod with the system.

According to the link on my post, the AUX cable goes directly to the Nav Screen (as if it is going to a aftermarket radio unit with aux in). Unless BMW started making different NAV screen from 9/2002, I would think this little upgrade (Aux in via NAV screen unit) should apply to all??? Am I missing something here?

The NAV screen isn't different - but the wiring harness is. BMW made specifc hardware changes in about 3 different stages starting from 09/02, some vehicles weren't even updated unitl 3/03.

The AUX plugs into the wiring harness going to the NAV monitor, not the monitor itself.

Much appreciated, you just saved me $70 for the cable!
