V27 question....

Am I missing something here? What does V27 offer that Martin's toggle_3d_final doesn't? I understand that V27 will offer Perspective (3D) mode via a selection in the hidded Nav menu, but is there anything else V27 has/does better than the V26 Martin put together? Also, since my Nav is out of warranty, having a version that looks like it's dealer installed isn't important to me. I'm just wondering if V27 offers anything else? Thanks.

For the "stock" V27 release, we won't know until the V27 release notes bulletin is posted. Given that perspective is a hidden option in V27, I expect that there are other changes which were the reason for the release. For people who want a custom splash screen and are already at V26, it means they won't need to have the NAV re-coded at the dealer to get it set back into USA mode.

Very simple... refined code.

Beta code is just that, beta. A programmer can go back and make changes to improve his/her code. Once it is improved, then a final release is made. Running beta is a risk. It will probably provide no noticable upgrades, but the performace might be a little easier on the unit.

I am actually typing this from the WiFi Zone at South Bay BMW (Torrance, CA).

They do not have the V27 update yet and told me that if they did have it, the upgrade would not be covered by all of my super-duper warranties and would cost $150.

Oh well, I guess someone has to pay all those salaries back in the service area.

At least I get a free car wash.

Looking forward to seeing the V27 CD image at X5World soon...

Mmmm - unless its a well known BMW dealer in the Bristol area - who, when a problem was reported with the accuracy of the system (basically my system was all over the place - wrong roads followed and map pointer out by several hundred yards) installed the V25 update to fix the problem and charged my £45 + VAT (tax) for the privilege - even though the nav was less than 3 months old and had never worked correctly.

It was actually a wrongly wired pin on the loom - no wheel sensor info to the nav computer.

I asked about upgrading to V26 and was told by them it would be £99 + VAT - Jacksons in Jersey did it free AND topped up my oil and washer bottle for free.

Name and shame rip-off dealers thats what I say - sorry but they are taking the p**s if they charge you for this. Perhaps customers would think twice about using them if they are known as rip off merchants.
