Nav gone into default mode how to re-install?

I updated my car back in Nov 05 with v26 and tried to do my friends and the screen stayed black for 10mins on his X5 and has now gone into default mode. I think my disc is no good.

How do you to install the Nav Firmware when the system is in default mode?

As the instructions say go into GPS then take the NAV DVD out and then you put the firmware dvd

I have got hold of another copy and wanted to confirm:

I put the Firmware CD first then turn ignition to first point and the see the on-screen instruction? Or is there a special way?

(MKIV DVD based on a X5)

Mmmm ... well, I always switch on the ignition to Position 1 FIRST - make sure the Nav has booted up OK then insert the update disk.

You say you have a black screen? Did this happen after installing your V26 software? Did the CD pop out on its own or did you have to force it out?

From what I understand, when you put the update in, the 1st action is to boot the nav into a specific update mode - from there, the ONLY thing it will do is load an update from a good CD. If this update fails, the CD seems to get stuck in a boot/read/boot cycle (and you have to pfaf about to get the CD out), and when you DO get the disk out, the Nav is 'dead'.

Switch on the Ignition to position 1, and insert a known good update disk - if all is well, after about 30 seconds or so, you should see the power light flash and shortly after, the update screen should appear. If it doesn't, the Nav could be stuffed.

Hope this helps.

I have updated my system many times in past but did a friends today and everything went ok until progress bar stayed at 100% for a few minutes then got "There was an error!" message and now Nav is off line (doesn't appear in menu anymore, fonts larger). Can still eject but won't load the update anymore. Is this terminal or can I recover myself? Luckily still under warranty!

Thanks, Steve

Thanks for that. Will give it a go. Luckily the car is under warranty. Could they figure that I tried to improve it?

Had same problem as described by trapdoor and Stevep.

Also I noticed a lot of people getting their systems re-coded, why is it that and how would you know it needs to be re-coded?

I have v26 already (and installed on my car) very strange it doesn't work in my friends.

I am getting hold of v27 and will try that too

Several reasons - those who used the V26.09A beta in the US, found the thing defaulted back to Euro mode (and other issues).

For me, all the Coding Data has defaulted back to the OEM install - ie. wiped out my VIN, Car Colour and Reg No. and has set back to 7 series as Vehicle Type. I don't have any problems though, but it seems some have issues with buttons on the monitor not working correctly, and things like Aux ventilation etc. disappearing.

Check in the Service Mode menu under Telematics (I think) - that will detail the vehicle type, VIN etc. If yours is all there, then you're OK.

Gonna get mine recoded next week as its in for an Inspection 1

Is it worth re-installing. Just don't want to put him in trouble for it. He has booked the car in next week for the dealer to fix the problem. Any excuses he can use for the problem he has now (that I caused) with Dealer?

Even though it has gone to default mode - he still has everything (inc Aux Vent, DSP, Code, etc... except Navigation)

Stevep have you tried another disc or v27? Let me know please.

i re-burned an image at a slower speed, then re-installed

Barflux - The Navigation Computer is no longer recognised in dashboard menu. I can load V27 update CD but the red light doesn't flash or anything load. Is there a way of forcing a reset to load the update again?

Thanx
