Observations regarding V27 and USA 2006-2 DVD Rom

Just installed v27 without any issues. Thanks again X5World for making this available to everyone.

Heres a couple of observations I noticed. When you enter a destination, you are now prompted for City/ZIP? I could have swore it only said City before with V26 and 2006-2 DVD, but I could be wrong there ...

In any case, sure enough, you can enter a location directly from a US Zip code ! A feature many users I know have being requesting for along time.

The other small change I noticed is that in the Emergency sub-menu (I have BMW Assist with B/T), the two options available are now SOS and Assistance. Before they said, Emergency and Assist. Still calls BMW Assist as before though!

Cheers, Adrian

Thanks for the feedback. I should have 2006.2 later this week and will test it myself.

Wink New feature!!!

I believe that's a new feature on the 2006-2 dvd not the software since i saw it in v26!!!! Question : Have you had any problems with the navigation loosing position or getting lost??? I was in the city today and it kept on getting lost and appearing in different streets than what I was on. Anyone in NY with this problem??? Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread!!!!

Hi,

I did have lots of problems with loosing position and getting lost.
I use v27 and DVD roadmap Europe High 2006/1.
I am from Germany but this obviously seems to be a prob of the v27 since i did not have this issue using the v26.

Greets,

Kermit

I too have this problem, just started yesterday and looked at the service menu, and it seems the gps sensor doesn't pick up the location of the car and 30mins later it found it, only it was somewhere off the map - the co-ordinates kept changing and finally it located where I was?

Is v27 ok to use officially? I'm in the UK with DVD 2005-2 Disc

I've also had the problem since upgrading to v27. Twice the system has lost its spot. Once it had me driving off the map about 50yds away from the highway (albeit parralel to the highway). The second time it got lost near my house by the time I got home, it was about 50-100 yds off.

Interesting to see others with the same problem. Is there anyway to report this?

Where is this happening? I had this happen to me too, but with v26 from the factory. This is in front of the Empire State Building.

GPS lost its position today....

hmmm... not sure what to think of this. First some background:

I found out about this Forum and the v27 software update because I was researching something my dealer was telling me when I had the car in to fix a nav screen brightness issue. The nav system was no longer automatically brightening the screen in bright daylight and my dealer was trying to tell me that there was no light sensor on my MKIV navigation screen!

Anyway, thanks to the great info here, I was quickly able to pull relevent service documents showing the location of the photocell which actually controlled this. Armed with these documents it was easy to convince my service manager to agree with my diagnosis (bad photocell) and order out a new screen for my MKIV. So far, so good.

Next, I performed the v27 upgrade and all was wonderful.

Anyway, today I dropped of the car to get the new screen installed and when I got it back, no birds, no GPS indicator, just a picture of Earth sitting in empty space while the car was driving to the left of the road again (see my previous post for why this happened initially).

This time though, the problem was different: The GPS sw version was correctly displayed, but GPS stats were showing "RCVERR" instead of "POS" and everything else was zeros.

So I called the dealer back wondering if the tech hadn't maybe bumped the antenna connection off but thinking to myself how could he do this when the GPS unit is in the trunk and he was working in the dash? My service manager said to drive it back and he would have the technician look at it. So I got back in the car and drove it back.

Imagine my surprise when about a block away from the dealership, I saw two white dots appear in the GPS area followed shortly by a GPS lock. I stopped in anyway and told my service manager about the RCVERR condition and he said he would chat with the technician about it and call me back if that brought anything to mind....

Wierd. Is this a problem with v27? Or, did the technician have the battery disconnected long enough that everything was wiped out. I've seen the GPS on my boat take up to 10 minutes to acquire a signal from dead off and maybe this was it. Heck, the gps didn't know what date or where on earth it was (lat/long was zeroed out too) so all its stored almanac data would have been useless and it would have had to resort to a "brute force" satellite acquisition technique.

Is this what's being experienced by other posters? It took a total of about 15 minutes of driving before my GPS started working again and during this time, the GPS stats were all 0's.

edit:

uh-oh.... blank earth again for about a mile on the way home then GPS suddenly appeared. After that, while in service mode, I noticed that my SNR on tracked satellites ranged around 03-07 with a couple above 10. Somebody want to go into GPS functions in service mode and tell me if this is what they see? I have no idea what "normal" SNR values should be. I'm still wondering if I don't have an antenna problem here... or maybe I'm just paranoid....
