I have successfully used both a DVD-R and a DVD+R for my backups.

I know that the usual advice is to burn a DVD at the slowest possible speed, but while doing the speed camera POI disks I found that my combination of Verbatim DVD-R and NEC ND-4550A ONLY works if you burn at 16x, any slower speed and the Mk IV will not recognise the disk.

Hi all

Can anyone tell me whether DVD+RW should work or whether it has to DVD-R or DVD+R?

I tried it with a +RW and it works intermittently and very slowly compared to the original disk, and the POI and information don't work at all.

Thanks

DVD-R and DVD+R work, but I'd be surprised if a DVD+RW would work.

I did the back up a couple of weeks ago. I used Nero to back up the disc at the slowest speed. the DVD I used was a cheap one that you buy in spools. Its working great

Thanks for the link

I was able to burn the image using Alcohol 120% at max speed. I'm using some TDK DVD+R's from costco (packaged in a spool of 100).

i used a staples DVD R- and could not get it to work on maximum or minimum speed. the nav drive would load the dvd and then stay on "Please Wait a Moment". I left it for about 5 minutes and then the map appeared with nothing on it and then froze. Could it be the DVD?
