With the MkIV, here in the U.S. we didn't have search by postcode (zip code) until the Navteq 2006.2 disk was released. This seems to work with both V26 and V27.
Sorry I can't help with a MkIII or a European nav disk answer, but :xoutpost:

yes, going from a MkIII to a MkIV is a simple plug-n-play swap of the nav drive.
