Navigation failure: First intermittent, now not working at all:

Hi All, I have a 2000 BMW X5 (4.4) that has been having issues with the Navigation system. Here is the progression of the problems over the last month:

1) Nav CD was stuck in Navigation unit, I was able to remove it by disconnecting, then reconnecting the power cable from it while pressing the eject button.

2) After Nav CD was removed, the display worked fine but the radio would play for approx 2 minutes and then shut off. Turning the radio's power button off and back on, allows the radio to play again for 2 minutes or so before shutting off again.

3) The BMW dealership diagnosed the issue as a bad (MK1) Navigation unit. I purchased a MK3 unit from ebay and tried it. Once installed, the BMW logo appeared on the Nav display, I then installed the software upgrade cd (ver 4.7) and the screeen went black and hasn't come back on.

4) I took it back to the BMW dealership, they stated that a) the MK1 is bad, b) the MK3 is not compatible with my vechicle (only MK1 and MK2 works supposedly) and c) the video module is bad.

I just want to get the Nav and radio working and I'm just not convinced that I'm getting accurate info from Dealership. Does anyone have experience, suggestions or insight with these issues?
