MK VI SAT NAV Problems!!
I have started the car up and moved it, the DISPLAY sometimes comes up with a basic text based screen in light blue, with no NAV computer. If I hold my finger on the EJECT button permanently all is well, the 'BMW' logo comes up the graphics are correct, and the location is correct . The moment I let go of the eject but it start to reload and fails. The EJECT button does continuously flash!! I occasionally get a basic light blue screen with no NAV computer. Any help would be appreciated. |

Sounds like the NAv computer is crashing when it tries to read the map disk. The 'basic light blue' software is backup software held in the TV tuner (I think) and is only displayed when the Nav computer is not responding.
What sort of map disk do you have in the Nav computer, Original or Copy? Make sure the disk is clean. |

Richard,
It is an original 2002 disc and has been working fine since I bought the car, however the symptoms have been getting worse i.e. longer before it starts to work correctly as the weeks have roled on. It seems that continual use of the car does not see a problem. Now that is is a infrequently used vehicle this problem has got very much worse. I have tried a copy disk and that works fine when the system starts. If I could wire the eject button pressed on all would be ok. I know the system will work eventually, but it is such a fuss to get it to start up of its own accord. It seems the SAT Nav Computer will not start at all no, I have had it out, checked the harness, powerd it off and back on again. No joy, it will not power up of its own accord when opening the car boot door or ignition postion I Mark Last edited by cobra_mark; 09-24-2006 at 01:15 PM. |

I am off to the dealer tomorrow, with the strongest suspicion it is the 'Unloader Relay'. The action of pressing the eject button give permanent power and a working system, however the unloader relay should give splash screen then power when the ignition is in poistion 1.

Well £20 lighter and none the wiser I decided to finally get stuck in myself. It may have been the £1200 replacement cost quoted by the dealer.
The outcome was a fully working system with possibly the need for a new fan. There was a dry joint on the connect of the Computer PCB and a loose connection in the 'blue' plug. Looking at a new fan and am relatively pleased. |
