Traffic Master - how do I disconnect / bypass it?
Does anyone know how to disconect it on my 2003 X5? A fello forum member with an E39 had a similar fault on the Navi Monitor that was solved by disconnecting the TM white / blue cable sockets in the boot and reconnecting just the blue to bypass the TM. I have tested another Navi Monitor and it definitely is not the monitor or the DVD player itself. I have had the TM switch out and it has 2 plugs on the back of it. One white and connected and one blue not connected. But I don't know where these 2 leads go except they disappear below the steering wheel and presumably end up somewhere in the boot area. Anyone know? |

They will end up attached to a box in the boot. You need to lift out the spare wheel, then unbolt the big black tub the spare wheel sits over and below that you will find the battery, in beside the battery will be the TM box where you can disconnect your leads.

I could identify the Video midule and the webasto preheat module and one labled abs but the others others were a mystery. I photographed each one and can post them up later but I also tried disconnecting each plug in turn and only the plugs connected to the video module had any effect on the screen - and even when the screen was blank it still blinked every 9 seconds. So I don't think I have found the TM connection yet. I also took out the TM buttn switch and noted the combination of wires connected via its white plug - red green blue yellow black white if I remember - would have to check and have photo - but no similar combination was visible in the boot L tray. Anyone know what the TM module looks like exactly - part number, colour , size etc.? I am sure I am being dim here but this is really bugging me now and I still have that damn 9 second blink! |

...also attempting to bypass TM
hi all,
i have a blank screen on my nav and am trying to bypass the TM to see if it fixes it. i am looking in the battery bay of my 2001/x5. I can see a white box about 15cm square, clip mounted side on, with 3 plugs coming from it - blue, black and white. i disconnected blue and white and reconnected just the blue. no difference. can anyone agree or disagree that this process bypasses the TM. i am not yet convinced! any thoughts welcome. rgds x5owner. NO that did nothing for me either despite much well meaning advice from other forum members.
I am still convinced that the TM module is up near the TM toggle switch, left of the steering wheel on my RHD version from 2003. But to be honest my life is now too short to worry - I just got used to the 9 second blink. Maybe one day i will get the trim off and have a look. |

No, the TM unit is mounted next to the Video Module in the boot.
On an E39 I saw with TM, it was mounted between the video module and the CD changer. I would expect it to be beside the video module. |

Thanks for that Kiwi, but I have had everything out of the boot and disconnected all wires in turn and still not found the TM unit. If it and other modules were all correctly and clearly labled that would help!!!!!

blank sat nav screen solved.
my sat nav is now working again.
for ref, after my attempts failed i took it in to sytner high wycombe. they fixed it in about half an hour. they have confirmed the traffic master will no longer work and have bypassed it - apparently in the boot. i think what i was doing was about 50% complete... i havent bothered taking the boot to bits yet to see exactly what they did. regards. |
