Help!! A few NEWBIE questions...

Hey guys, a few newbie questions on this nav stuff...

1) I have a US 2005 M3, it has the DVD drive in the trunk and the 16x9 monitor, that automatically makes it an MKIV right?
2) The latest OS as of 1/10/07 is v28 right? and the latest maps DVD is 2007-1?
3) I saw the link to download the OS, but I am reading that by installing it, I run the risk of kicking my nav into "euro mode". What causes the nav to go into euro mode? is there any way to get back to US mode without going to the dealer or buying expensive programmers? Don't really want to have to go to the dealer everytime I "experiment" with the nav. And certainly don't want to "openly" void my warranty.
4) Whats the latest/greatest/easiest way to change the splash screen? I've seen a few different guides, but not sure which is the current method
5) Any known way to automatically skip the ACCEPT disclaimer? Seems like it should be pretty easy to patch one of the files to skip this step, but again, I'm concerned about kicking the nav into euro mode.

If I ended up having to go to the dealer to get recoded, wouldn't they just wipe the software in the process?

Any help for a newbie would be appreciated!

The things you stated are true...pretty sure
All the other things, just search for them and you will find an answer.

Haha... that was the whole point of my question... as is the case with other forums, its very difficult to find information buried in hundred page threads ... other threads are outdated, deprecated, etc.

1) yes
2) yes, pretty certain
3) there's a download somewhere in this forum. You download it and burn it onto a disk and run it in your gps drive. as for euro mode, i haven't heard of that problem.
4) http://www.xoutpost.com/102790-post161.html
5) you can get rid of the accept screen, but all your units will be changed to metric... http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...kiii-mkiv.html

Thanks for the links...

As the last link stated, downgrading then upgrading may put you into "UK mode" AKA "Euro mode". Thats what changing units to metrics means... you also loose a bunch of functionality .

When the nav gets a OS upgrade it reverst to default settings (Europe).
You can reset the settings with my NavCoder app

Edit the OS with NavTweak. Upgrade the version by 0.1. Load new OS.
Easy

With v28 (4-1/80) the disclaimer will go away by itself.
Or use NavCoder to set Europe mode but with US language/voices

Only if their version is greater than yours.
If you made, eg, a v4-1/99 then they wouldn't overwrite it.

If you do this, you don't have to downgrade to v27 before you load v28 again, is that right?
How exactly do you do upgrade by 0.1?

Thanks!

I'm totally and utterly confused... some threads on here seem to say that it only goes into euro mode when you DOWNGRADE? but it will preserve everything when you UPGRADE? But KiwiJochen seems to say that it'll go to euro mode ALL the time. I've also seen some posts about people saying it'll go into euro mode all the time on an upgrade too???

TommyL
ie: change from 4-1/80 to 4/1-81

81 = 8.1, or 0.1 higher
