Custom Splash Screen Help (please)

I am currently running Nav OS V25. I just downloaded V27 and it is sitting on my hard drive ready to go. I would really love to add the custom splash screen that Peter made from the i-drive screen, but I am clueless on how to do it. I have spent the past 3 hours reading tons of threads but my head is really spinning now.

I assume I don't even have the proper file for the image, the one attached is just a simple .gif.

Can anyone give me a simplified walkthough on how to customize my splash screen. I would be very greatful!!!

Peter, if you read this, can you email me the original file?

Thanks so much.
Mark

Easy:
1. Get NavTweak v2.6
2. Open the file on the OS disk you wish to edit - navboot for MkIV, usw_load for MkIII
3. Replace image with new image (right click on image to replace)
4. Save file back to OS disk
5. Load in to vehicle

There's nothing wrong with the GIF image, it looks the right size.

Ok, first problem.... I downloaded the Navtweak (there is a link in the above sticky). I unzipped it. When I go to run it I get the following error "failed because libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll not found".

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks all, I know this topic has been beat to death, but it is very new to me and very confusing.

Correction: I refered to "Peter" as the creator of the custom splash I want to use, I see it was actually "Paul Martin"

Sorry about that.

You need the GTK run time environment

Read this:

Ok, getting there, but still having a problem. Let me tell you what I have done so far.

1. Downloaded the V27.rar update
2. Un "rar-d" it with Tugzip
3. I now have (2) files: V27.mdf (huge file) and V27.mds (only 1kb)
4. Downloaded NavTweak 2.6
5. Downloaded GTK Development Environment (not sure if I even need)
6. Downloaded GTK Runtime Invironment

So now the NavTweak does open up (yeah) but when I choose File, Open, and select either the .mdf or the .mds I get "Unknown File Format".

Also, I found Paul's original file that has the i-drive logo. He has it saved as a "wave" file and said to change it to a zip. How do I do that? He said the file is really big thats why he sent it that way. Or am I ok with just using the gif image that I right-click saved from one of his posts.

Man my wife thinks I'm nuts and is gonna kill me if I mess up her Nav. But if I'm gonna do the upgrade I want the custom splash as well.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me.
Mark

You've done everything right so far.

The MDF file is a CD image file. You need to use eg MagicISO to open the MDF file and view the contents of the CD. Then you can extract the navboot file from the CD, change the GIF inside the navboot, and save back to the CD image

Then create a new CD using the CD image - this is the OS software CD

Then load the new software in the car by inserting the CD in the nav drive.

Do you have a Mk3 or Mk4 nav?

Ok, I'll try that and report back.

I have MK IV.

When I make the changes and I'm ready to burn my final CD, do I burn both mdf and mds files or just one of them.

Again thanks a TON. I would have given up without all of your help.

if you just want to change the splash screen, try using gif extractor. you can find it here, then follow the instructions here. that's what I use to change the splash screen. hope that helps.

No, you don't burn the file to the CD like you do a file to a hard drive.
The MDF _is_ the CD image. You have to use a program like MagicISO to burn a CD using the image file (that's the BIG file)

Get MagicISO to see what I mean
