Is there a way to upgrade to v29 and still keep the same voice, splashscreen et al.?
Voice will most likely remain unchanged but splash screen will be updated with new SW update

So if you want to reatin your splash screen then you need to make a new customer v29 OS disc

That sounds good. I'm not sure what a "new customer v29 OS disc" is though. Is that something I have to make myself or obtain elsewhere?

He meant to say that you would need to make your own custom V29 for that.

Got it. I'll probably keep v28 for now and if and when a giant leap in features comes out (like street names in Perspective Mode), I'll go throught the brain damage of learning how to hack the splash screen.

Yes Ebay is a good place to buy a cd already made with version 29.1 (latest) I recommend buying from the seller bimmermanual. He sells reliable cd's for around 20 bucks.

Yes, buy the CD for $20.

Or download the image, and burn onto a CD-R yourself. Will cost much less than $20 but if you've never burnt CD images, you may prefer to spend $20 and let someone else do the job. Only because a lot of people get confused when learning how to burn images
