Welcome to the forum ilovebytes,
First off, never ever burn a OS disc at that speed, always use x1 or x2 MAX, this will cause I/O errors on the upgrade, and the last thing you want is a corruped firmware image. I use ImgBurn @ 1x . Once you have downloaded the v29.1 zip file, unzip it (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc. Then use imgburn or similar (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) to burn a new (blank) cd with the new downloaded firmware image. eg: install imgburn. then run. open v29.mds (from sub-dir). select "mode write" from menu. press write (cd image at bottom). Burn at 1x speed, on good quaility cd. When its finished writing your new firmware cd, Goto the car open the drivers door, Goto the dvd nav computer wait for the red led on the drive to go out, Then press eject on drive, Eject the map disc, Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open. Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen. Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot. Eject cd, Confirm reboot. Thats it. Do not swich off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade. Hope this helps. John

But can you upgrade an E60 Nav with v29? I thought it was two completely different Nav systems?

No, you can not update an E60 with the V29 OS update disks. Those only work in the previous E38 7 Series, E39 5 Series, E46 3 Series, E53 X5, Z4, X3, and E65/E66 7 Series.

V29 Update Killed Bluetooth
Hi,
After doing the V29 update my BMW Assist and Bluetooth won't work. The phone options are gone from the display screen and I can't get the vehicle to enter pairing mode. Has anyone else encountered this? I also noticed the all the BMW Assist settings are blanked in the Service menu. Had I known the update was going to clear these I would have wrote them down. I'll have to get the dealer to re-enter them. : ( |

Just re-program them using NavCoder. Sometimes, upgrading software will cause the programming to be reset to default.
check your service menue settings: does it show 'auto em call' = yes? Does it still show the right car and VIN? If the car and VIN are wrong, the nav lost its programmed settings. You can re-program them using my NavCoder software. Loading new SW into the nav doesn't change the Bluetooth system at all, 'Telephone' should still be visible on the nav Menu. If not, reset the whole car by disconnecting the battery, waiting 10min, then re-connecting Jochen |

I downloaded the v29.1.
I burned it at x1 with ImgBurn. I opened the car door and kept it open; turn the ignition key to position 1 Waited for the main screen then removed the 2006.2 nav CD Inserted the v29.1 CD, waited… then waited some more, it didn’t load... even thought I could hear it reading data off the CD. Help! What am I doing wrong?? ThanksJ |
