Edge is on a distinguished road
markta,

I'm not sure what solution ended up working for you... and the link that UCrewX5 posted does have a number of things to try, but I think I have a solution that is even easier and more likely to be reliable than any of the ones listed on the link.

First of all, one clarification. I don't own an X5, I own a 2005 MINI Cooper S with the factory Nav. However, the Nav system is exactly the same system, such that we install the exact same OS updates as you guys do (that's why I come here sometimes - x5world is more "connected" for NavOS update info!).

That being said, I would be VERY surprised if my realization & discovery of the easy way to deal with a "stuck disc" problem was not identical on X5s, M3s, etc that use the same Nav system:

-----------------
It appears that the main reason that the Nav system refuses to eject the disc is when it doesn't like the disc, but it sees enough merit with the disc to keep trying. So it keeps trying and trying (and trying) over and over again to read the disc, almost like an endless loop. The catch is, it completely ignores the eject button while it's working so hard to read the disc!

See, when you open the door of the car, the Nav system fires up immediately... you can see the screen turn on, if you listen closely, the disc starts to spin, etc. And most people may not realize that opening the door does that... yet once the "beast" has been awoken, it will keep trying to read that bad disc... therefore you can't eject it.

So what's the solution? You simply have to wait for the entire system to go to sleep. In other words:
  1. Open the door to the car
  2. Leave the car door open... don't touch anything else, don't turn the key, just leave the car door open and wait.
  3. After a while (3-5 minutes or so?), without any further activity, the Nav system will go back to sleep.
  4. Then hit the eject button. Presto, it pops out!
The reason you had to leave the door open? So you still had access to the car if you got out while you waited. Each opening and closing of the door has the potential to wake the system up again (or keep it awake), so once I've gained access to the cabin, I don't touch anything that could potentially keep the Nav system awake, until it has gone to sleep.

Anyway, for you or anyone else who gets a stuck disc, try this method first. I almost guarantee it work more often than option 1 & 2 on UCrewX5's link (written by JV)... and it's the simplest!
