Are those versions of the iDrive NAV system?

No! iDrive is not the same.

These are the versions for the old GPS systems MKI, MKII, MKIII and MKIV (MK1 to 4), present on old BMW's up to 3-series E46 and X3 and the older X5.

The iDrive systems, which are microsoft windows based, are not upgradeable by the user. You need to go to BMW to "reinstall your system" and/or run the "system updates".

iDrive system based on VxWorks RTOS system, not Windows

Not completely true. Not all iDrive cars use the new VxWorks RTOS system; some iDrive cars use the VDO-Dayton system (as fitted to E38, E39, E46, X5 etc)

The 7-Series E65 uses the NAVI01, NAVI02 and NAVI03 computers. These are based on the same nav system as the i-bus cars. The NAVI01, NAVI02 are CD-based, and essentially a variant of the Mk3.

The NAVI03 is DVD/CD based, and is a variant of the Mk4.

The other MOST-based cars with iDrive use different nav systems - the VxWorks RTOS system - they have the CCC system in the dash.

But the E65 7-series uses the NAV01/02/03, with the nav computer mounted in the boot. That nav system can be updated through inserting the V30 nav OS CD. I know, I've done a few.

The CCC cars are updated over the diagnostic system.

And then, of course, the Japanese cars use a completely different system again...

Jochen

Trapdoor. Do you have this OS to share with us? I have the same problem here in Sweden. The navi only shows the name of the county, not the actual city!
I will pass by my dealer to see what they say.

Somewhere - I have to see if I can find it! I had a major tidy up a few months ago so it won't be where I can find it easily

I am kind of hoping it will still be available on the net somewhere - perhaps Martin still has a copy if all else fails. If I can find it, I'll stick the image up on Rapidshare.

I would urge you though to call it in to your dealer - it's the only way the issue will get correctly resolved. You need to get them to compare it though to a pre-version 27 nav if they have one.

this system based on Microwave OS9000 (VDO-Dayton or Siemens don't engineering own OS systems)

Just to clarify..

If you do not have an iDrive car, v30 will not update your nav system.
