That is the MGR equivalent of a single tuner BM24
Nearly every standard BMW part can be used in the Rover but as rule the firmware in each unit is either crippled or years behind current BMW units

I am not sure how far Jochen has got with this but hopefully we will be able to recode Rover units with BMW updates one day soon i.e the Rover Mk3 nav comp

No, that's not a 'BM24'. BM24 is the dual-tuner radio made by Becker.

The radio pictured is the C23, single tuner radio. A C23 is the "Business RDS" model, whereas the BM24 is the "Professional RDS" model.

The C23 used to be made by Philips, and was also labelled as a Philips model PH7851. Now that Siemens VDO purchased the Philips automotive nav/stereo systems manufacturing business, the radio is now labelled as made by Siemens VDO.

I tried very hard, and discussed the problem with some very knowledgable and very experienced people who know these systems better than me. The conclusion was that the LRO (Land Rover) nav is coded in the firmware (EEPROM) to read only the LROC01O boot loader. We tried every trick we knew of to try and change the boot loader to BMWC01S, and get it to load the BMW nav software. All to no avail.

I finally solved my problem of what to do with the LRO nav by selling it to a person with a Range Rover who needed the original nav :-)

That has terminated my research into LRO nav units.

That is a C23 Business RDS tuner. Single-tuner, AM and FM.

Earlier models also had shortwave, but I doubt that will be fitted.

Used to be made by Philips, but now that Siemens VDO own Philips, that's why you see a Siemens label on the top.

Oops yes I get my 23 and 24s muddled!

I guess then if the Landrover uses dedicated firmware then MG Rover probably did the same what a pita!

I doubt the radio will be different, I can think of no reason why the Rover radio should have different firmware in it to a BMW radio, apart from the age of the radio (given that development of Rover units stopped when BMW sold Rover to Ford)

So a BMW radio will have newer firmware than Rover.

eg: if you want to use a BM24, use one with software version v9.0 or later (I have v10.0) for full compatibility with the Mk4 nav. Earlier versions work but produce undesirable effects at times, like switching to the radio screen for no apparent reason!

Radio will fit on vehicle's with satellite navigation display Well it looks like my tuner is the C23 made by siemens,and the sat/nav computer is the MK 111 as it as got the purple and blue wiring plugs ,with the LR/MGR software ,which won't load the bmw updates.
On the E46 sat/nav retriofit wiring loom there is a black three pin connection the colours are yellow black and brown ,could you tell me what they for and what they are connected to,here's a photo
