i have bought the 16:9 lcd and the mk4 dvd unit
i think i have the latest software which i can burn to a disc

Wish you the best; but remember it could probably be a pirated copy that may not work..........

Ok.

Yes you could, you would need the map disc image and the right software, say imgburn.

Where you would find the map disc image is not generally discused on this forum, this site is used to share information/problems on the nav systems themselves not promote warez.

Again, yes you could buy from both these sources, dealer is the best option but not cheap, ebay like anythinge else on there, you take a chance that it wont work.

Since you have a MK4 then you probably need the HIGH map disc, you can also use the CD (from the mk1,mk2 and mk3) as the mk4 will read an use this disc without any problems.

hoep you can help
Hope I have.

Yes, most of the people that read this forum have navigation, but the reason that you have received few replys (i would guess) is that you are a new member and your first questions is "where can I get hooky software", this is not normally the done thing.

Like i said its to help others out with problems that we have with the systems themselves, not link to warez sites.

People don't genarelly like answering querys about warez.

You could be an agent from BMW,the police or even F.A.C.T, it wouldn't take much to close this excellent forum if it were known to supply werez details for hooky software.

I just have, when you ask a question, you need to be patient, a lot of people from all over the world read the forums, so time zones need to be taken into account.

Welcome to the world of BMW my freind, lol, no one said owning a BMW would be cheap, although I do agree the map discs are a hidious price.

ok thanks for that thats very helpful of you and lets me know what im looking for

just a word on your suggestion that I was asking about hooky software. I never mentioned 'hooky' software. I was asking where I might get the DVD from whatever source. When I mentioned downloading as one of the possible options for obtaining the dvd the implication here was that the software might be free to download from whoever manufacturers it (how should I know if it is or not). A lot of software is free to download. Once you buy say a Garmin vehicle satnav system for example, you can download the maps for free whenever you wish and as and when they make updates. I have bought a BMW with satnav, I have then gone on to buy an additional satnav system, so I own 2 BMW satnav systems currently, so its not entirely unreasonable to suggest that I might have the rights to download it from the supplier free of charge. Clearly this isn't the case so I will now try and source a legitimate copy using the information you have kindly provided me with.

regards

Rich

No problem.

I did not mean to offend you, a lot of people sign up and ask if there is a link to download the latest map discs and generally they know that its a cost item and they want it for "free", you did not, so my apologies if I caused offence.

Written like this then the question is fair enough.

I suppose you don't till you ask.

Indeed some do offer free updates (I wish BMW did), Garmin is an aftermarket item and would therefore not sell many units if the updates were not free, BMW are not so hampered.

Indeed, not entirely unreasonable at all, a valid point since the DVD is approx £200 (or special offer £99), unfortunately bmw get the CD and DVD supplied via a 3rd party (Siemens VDO Car Communication), and they charge BMW so BMW charges us...

You only own the right to use the CD/DVD that you have, in the same way the you buy a PC and buy a XP CD with its licence, if you then want to upgrade to Vista you then need another CD and licence for that .

Again my apologies if I caused any offence.
