When I try to install the program on a laptop with vista, I get an error that says:
"The module "mscomm32.ocx" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c."

Any idea how to resolve this issue?

You've probably got UAC (User Access Control) on.

Under Vista you can only register a DLL or OCX control when running as administrator, but even if you are an administrator you run as a user unless specifically promoted to an administrator.

Registering controls under Vista is a pain! What you have to do is this :
  • Find the shortcut to the command prompt (Show All Programs, Accessories).
  • Right click it and select Run as administrator.
  • Select OK or enter the administrator password in the dialog that is displayed.
  • Change directory to the folder where the DLL or OCX you want to use is (using the CD command, e.g. CD \NavCoder or some such)
  • Run the program regsvr32 followed by the name of the DLL or OCX, eg regsvr32 mscomm32.ocx

Hi Jochen.

Well I can only agree with Villemus; navcoder is getting better and better......

Regarding the LCM, would it be possible to code that one as well regarding "running daylights" ? In Sweden we must by law always have lowbeam or parking + front fog lights on also during day time. It would be sweet to get that on automaticly when starting the engine. Today my normal front lights (xenon) goes on, this was alterd by my BMW shop here in Sweden since I had the German "auto on"(lichtautomatic) function enabled before.

Man you guys are good. Thanks go out to RichardP1 for the Vista help! May I suggest adding it to the Readme file? Also a comprehensive instruction manual would be great for this program explaining what to enter where, what things do, etc. I am a long time BMW owner and some of the items still puzzel me.

LEDs

If you replace them with a luxeon LED and resistor setup so the LED dissipates about 1W then on a 2003 325ci that was sufficient power for the car not to flag a problem. I guess it was about 1W in the LED and about 2W in the resistor.

cheers,
Seedar

By the way - it would fantastic if you could disable the warnings for trailer lights as now days lots of trailers have LEDs and the system doesn't cope with them ! Dont know if that could also stop the indicators from flashing at twice the normal rate ?

thanks,
Seedar

what would you rather I do:

a) write a comprehensive instruction manual

b) add more options and features to NavCoder

They both take time...

Honestly, the program is so good already that it really warrants an equally good manual. Tack on an additional few bucks for the cost of making one and add it as a pdf file to the program's zip file. For one thing, you'll get a lot fewer questions that you are obviously spending time answering, so that alone will save you time in the long run.
