navigation oem-retrofit, Is it possible?

Hi All and Merry Christmas!!

I'm wondering if this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-G...ayphotohosting is compatible with my 09/02 x5 with no current nav system but the business cd.

I've already read from here that it's hard (or even impossible) to make aftermarket oem-nav but can anyone be more specific? What should I check or buy besides thisone.

Thanks in advance.

Vesku.

I also looked at this system a few months back. My 01' X5 did not come with navigation. The local BMW dealer told me it would run around around $3K to replace/install the wiring harness, that did not include any of the navigation equipment. I really wanted a factory "look" for my navigation, but on the other hand, I can do a lot for $3,000.00 and opted to go with a Garmin Nuvi 660 instead. Good luck.

Not only is it possible, but it's been done by several folks here. Here's one article showing what's involved - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...system-x5.html

Additional info can be found on the home page in the Navigation section.

The original BMW retro-fit instructions state around 8 hours of work is required, using the full retro-fit kit.

If you obtain all the right pieces, (brackets, bolts, nuts, loom, electronics) you should be able to do it in a weekend.

No modifications - apart from following those in the retro-fit instuctions - are required. You will need to dismantle the interior, run wiring looms, solder wires, and be comfortable working with electronics. The retro-fit instructions help considerably.

Yes, you generally will have to re-program the car so that it knows you have nav fitted. Some people have found it works without, but it depends a lot on the state of the equipment you get. If you purchase 2nd hand nav units that were from a X5, you will probably be OK.

$3,700 is probably a decent price for 100% brand new, OEM BMW parts. The big four parts (MKIV nav computer, 16:9 screen, radio, and nav harness) would probably set you back more than $4K if you bought them new from a dealer.

Most folks probably spend around $2,500 for a combination of new and used parts from eBay and BMW dealers.
