Problem is, the Navteq license forbids reselling the discs. I tho't I'd upgrade to the latest and offset the cost by selling the older CDs on eBay. Apparently Navteq pays someone to search listings and challenge them based on a license infraction. I gave up and resolved never to pay Navteq another dime...

That is actually a different problem. Navteq's licence does not all you to break a set of CDs to sell individually. Their license will allow you to resell your CD set as a complete set, and you can resell an individual DVD (since that is a set in itself). Navteq's licensing strategy is trying to prevent folks from doing what you attempted-- buy a set of CDs for $200, and then sell the individuals for cheap to offset the one(s) that you wanted to keep. That undercuts their $130 pricing model for individual CDs.

Actually, what I was doing was selling old CDs to buy new ones; not "cherry picking" - but I did list them individually. I don't recall the license agreement mentioning a difference between "sets" and individual discs. I do remember it explicitly forbid reselling - period. No exception for reselling the entire set. If I can still find it, I'll check again - but I probably tossed it in disgust...

Unless there is a completely different agreement that ships with the single CDs(since I've never bought an single - I wouldn't know), they're just enforcing it differently.

Of course I haven't read it in over a year since this all transpired. Funny thing is, the license agreement cannot be found on Navteq's web site(at least at that time). You only see the agreement when you receive the discs. It's been close to three years since I last ordered from them, so all this may have changed...

I was incorrect - I found the agreement in my desk. There is an exception at the bottom of "Personal Use" for the "permanent" transfer including "undivided sets".

mea culpa

I just got an email back from Navteq regarding the release of the 2008 CD. Lame response.

One of the folks on Bimmerboard just posted that he spoke with Navteq today. Navteq told him that the 2008 map release date is Monday, 3/24/2008.
