navcoder and others
I may be looking to buy a cable and navcoder and just noticed this website (http://www.carx24.de/carx.htm). I know it does state that it's for an X5, but I have the same system in my E46. So, does anyone know if this works (will defo buy nav coder aswell but just want oppinions on this) What I would like is to play MP3's on my system. Also, if you look at the above link, it almost looks like there are video's stored on the system... is this possable? THanks in advance ASH |

Hi Ash,
Carx is just a front end interface for a carputer (a pc in the boot connected to touch screen monitor) that emulates the look of an OEM nav screen. It can be used as an add on for an OEM setup but requires an i-bus interface and a pc running the carx software. It's a nice idea but I'm not sure I'd like to lug a laptop or pc base station around in the boot all the time, waiting for it to boot etc... Not sure about how the HDD would stand up to the rough ride either. If you want to play mp3s and watch videos then get an Intravee and an Alpine KCA-420i iPod interface. Have a look here. http://www.intravention.co.uk/ HTH

ASH.
I'm running CARX in my 525iT for a year now and I know there is a lot of other peolpe using it. It is a front end but doesnt require a touch screen. You use the buttons and rotary knob on the org display. No problem so far with the PC in the boot and boot up time is around 20sec so that's no issue. CarX will play MP3 and videos (not AVI) and has some other features like speed camera warning etc. //Tobmag |

I like the sound of the pc bit (using the org screen and buttons) but how is this done? (how do you get the screen to communicate with the carputer)??
Thanks in advance ASH |
