Thanks KiwiJochen for the confirmation. Is there anything special about the coax cable or the SMB coaxial connector? I need to replace it (because it was cut) and I would like to know my options in fixing this issue. Can I just buy any kind of coax cable and a SMB coaxial connector and I'm good to go?

Maybe the e38/39 antenna extension cable would work for you. Kiwi would know. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...78&hg=65&fg=50

SMB connectors are common in the cellular base station industry, and in microwave radio equipment and GPS antennas

The coax is LMR100 or similar, high frequency low-loss coax.

The SMB connectors are crimped with special tools to the coax cable.

The easiest thing for you to do is to buy a pre-made length of coax cable fitted with SMB plug, trim the ends of the coax and solder to join the coax together. Remember, coax has an inner conductor and an outer conductor. Both need to be joined, and the connection should ideally be as short aa possible to prevent signal loss. If you have no experience joining coax cable, ask a friend with a soldering iron and heat-shring tubing.

Or replace the entire cable . but that is harder because you have to run a whole new cable through the car to the top of the tailgate under the spoiler (where the antenna is)

Thanks KiwiJochen. I will look probably stop by my local electronics shop (Fry's) and ask about a coax cable already fitted with a SMB plug. I will update once I move forward.

I've tried Radio Shack and my local electronics shop (fry's) with no success. Do you have any suggestions on what store should have this? I'm located in San Diego, CA.

Go and see your local cellular telephone base station maintenance company. They're bound to have a few lying around.

Look for a speciallize shop for communications parts. Some of the places in your area have this stuff but they have minimum charges like 50 or 100 dollars. You might consider getting the extension cable for the e38/39 I mentioned above and splice it to yours. Attach one end to the nav and splice the other to your antenna cut off wire (carefully). Try some place like BMA Parts which I think is in the LA area for a good price. You can find their number on the web.

Another simple and cheap option is to visit a wreckers (breakers yard) and cut of some coax with plug from another BMW

Thanks Guys. If I go to a wreckers, which car should have that cable? Is it just the ones with navigation, or is this a standard piece in every beemer?
