Whistle Solved, Help pls.! Crashed my Mk4 :-(

Need a bit of help - sorry
I'm new member here, but have browsed the forum since I changed my E32 with an E39 540 from 11/97 with an aftermounted Mk4.

I've updated it to V31 (version 10.0) - later downgraded to V29, and upgraded to V31 with modded splashscreen - all went fine and have been enjoyed a lot.

Then I today thought I would add "Mortens 540iA" to the MENU line, so I
modded navboot and the two version files and re-burned the ISO.

Went to the car and put the key in pos1 - NAV booted and I removed the NAV DVD.
Inserted the new modded V31 CD and the NAV did as last time....
After a little while it said - "Updating your software... it can take up to 6 minutes"
After 15 minutes it still said the same and now I can't get the CD out
(so I could try to insert the previous used V29 and V31)
I have tried to hold the eject for minutes - tried to rapidly push it,
have un-mounted the NAVI DVD drive and taken off power - hold eject while reconnecting it.
CD is still in :-(
And when I put on ignition - again says "updating your software"

HELP Please

Thanks for the tip, but I've even printed it out... last is to pull the drive apart..... I hope some can give a tip on how to get it out without doing that.

I decided that while I had the drive out and the warrenty no longer exist,
to remove the top from the drive and take out the CD manually

Now I'm a bit nervous to see what happens when I re-mount the drive.
Will it still say - Upgrading, will it be blank, will it accept the old used CD (and re-install) or will my NAV be dead.

Solved the problem
After re-mounting the DVD/NAVI unit without the CD it sounded wierd
It was the motor for the drive that wasn't mounted correctly (gear wasn't engaged)
After fixing that and once more re-mounting the DVD/NAVI unit, the screen was blank.
Thank god it accepted the previous modified CD and I am now back
running version 10.00 modified with own splashscreen.

Back is to figure out what went wrong
1 the modifications I made to navboot caused the error
2 bad CD - used same brand as the working ones.... will try a new one

It was apparently the CD (a RW) that was bad or the way I modified the version, as I have now down-/upgraded 3 times since.

Now I just need to find a good guide on how to change the France language and voice to Danish (well a mix of Danish and English as not all places can be changed as far as I know)

Why spend money and buying the resler interface? OK if you dont have the paralell port on your computer and need a USB version. Im running my car PC and doing a lot of re-programming by the simple interface that is attached with Navcoder.
Have never failed so far...

DK540, keep us posted how it works with the language coding, I was thinking in the same way as you since I want to keep English and modd English as well. I modded French but then the SES just talk French and dont understand a shit I'm saying....:-)
+ all other messages in the IKE is also in French :-(

Hi Tobmag

I am not able to produce the PCB (the board), so need to buy it....
I'll keep you posted when I get to it
(can take a bit though! Have to get it first and figure out how to connect it to the car)
It is excatly what you experience I want to avoid - I don't want traffic messages, or any other stuff, to be in French or German.

OK - I don't see the PCB though
and making it yourself - as far as I recall (did such things 30 years ago) - requires chemicals
