Bob - I normally dont work on my car that late at night, but its the weekend . I couldnt sleep unless I had my car back to normal.

Sorry mate, if you have a mk3 then you have v22 (3-1/63), v32 is for the other nav units and is the revision of the OS disc not the OS it holds.

As long as you followed the correct burn procedure then just bung it in.

Procedure:

Select the write speed as the slowest rated speed for the disc, you must do this and then burn on a good quality cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Go to the car open the drivers door,
Go to the nav computer and press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd, and remove from drive
Confirm reboot.

That's it.

Do not switch off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

For the mk3, not many mate, just driver updates.

For dutch, you need to recode you unit (use navcoder).

Question First timer needing help with MK IV..

Hi all!

I have a 2003 E46 with MK IV and 4-1/12 (yes I know... ), and I just recently became aware of the possibility of upgrading the FW(?) of the Nav.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me understand a few things:

1) What is the difference between FW, OS and SIB?
2) Do I need to update in a specific order? (via V20-something before V31/V32?)
3) Would the V32 be the best choice for my system?
4) I think my Map DVD is from 2002/2004 or something.., how do I get the newest most updated maps for my region? (Europe/Scandinavia)

Again, I would probably learn all this by reading all the threads and the thousands of posts in the forum, but I hope some kind expert would guide me in the right direction...

They are different thing mate, FW = firmware, OS = Operating system, and SIB = service information bulletin.

Firmware usually means the software loaded onto IC chips etc, OS is the system that runs on the hardware. SIB is just spec and text based info.

No with a mk4 you can go straight to v32

Yes.

Buy online or go to your local dealer.

Question

Awesome. Thanks for clearing that up.
Is the FW the only thing that needs upgrading, or are there other OS upgrades as well?
