Well that's pretty hopeless then isn't it - you would've thought that BMW would be prepared for this scenario.....

can't think of what hardware would be needed, you have the CCC a microphone and a switch already!?

It seems that way, maybe there is a hardware module required to switch the I-Drive screens when for example you voice command for say the 'audio menu'. I find it very frustrating as I don't really believe the dealer is pulling all the stops out to find me a solution. It's a pity its not possible to contact BMW technical in Germany directly without having to go through a UK dealer.

apparently you need a split button switch to go under the Idrive controller, and potentially a wiring loom to connect the switch to the CCC and the steering wheel.

There is a retrofit kit for the 5-series, but not alas as yet for the E70.

Thanks for the update,

You would think the same kit would do both vehicles ?, is the 5 series retrofit kit listed in the accessories brochure, I just wondered what the cost of the kit is.

it is in the 5-series digital brochure on bmw.co.uk and on realoem. suspect wiring loom might be a wee bit short
