What version is good for MK1 and MK2 to be upgraded with?

Im asking because of the following quote:

Simply see the table on http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ystem-faq.html
where you can find the latest update-versions for each system!

For MK1 it's v24.1, for MK2 it's v21, for MK3 it's v22 and for MK4 it's v26.

Yes I can see that, as we can see for mk1 24.1 is lastest good update, but also on v25 and v26 we can see that it gives the same update for mk1 and mk2

but what is confusing me that someone stated do not update mk3 with v26 or your navi would get non functional. and on my previous post i included the quote from the person that updated MK1 750I

So my question is can i update current MK1 and mk2 systems with v26 without worrying that after update navi would become non operational like mk3? model is 523i in germany.

Thanks for all the support guys

the very 1st post in this thread says,

"Note that this update is for MkIV nav drives only. If you have a MkIII, do not even consider using this release because it is reported to have some issues that could render your nav drive inoperable."

that's what i would go by.

Well if the system already is a the latest version NO update will take place. Let's say your MK3 is at v23 (3-1/63): Inserting v26 will change nothing because the system sees that there's no new version and will not start the update process.

However to go to the latest version for each device you'd only need to use the versions I quoted above:

For MK1 it's v24.1, for MK2 it's v21, for MK3 it's v22 and for MK4 it's v26.

Simply ignore what confuses you because it's not true. If your MK3 has 3-1/62 or older loaded updating it with the v26 will bring it to 3-1/63. Not more not less.

Don't know where this comes from however the official document for v26 does not say anything like that: http://www.xoutpost.com/pdf/v26.pdf

And it has always been that way: You can insert any version into any MKx. If the MKx was not up-to-date it get's updated to the latest release.

Several members have reported problems with newer OS versions on MkII & MkIII drives because the older drives just don't have the processor speed to run the newer software. I don't specifically recall anyone on this board asking about an MkI.

I would like to paraphrase the disclaimer: "anything you do to your Navigation computer is at your discretion and X5World will be held harmless from indemnity in case of malfunction..."

Hello! Thanks for all the support!

The thing is this: Im going to Germany soon, and i dont officialy own bmw its for my friend. Now i told him to verify wich NAV system he has and to tell me lastest version.

I only know that he has bmw 523i from 1996 year and I assume that is E39 do you agree with me ?

Secondly after i get an update from him wich navi he has in there, then we will see if an update will be neccessary or not. However I assume that he has MK1 since its year 1996, and i also assume that his navi os is not up to date. So you advise me to update with v24.1 to get the lastest os for MK1 instead of putting v26 in it am i right ?

For mk2 v 21, mk3 v22, mk4, v26 thats should be the versions i should use for each mk navi right ? And only if i have mk4 would be v26.

The reason why im asking this is because for instance if he has MK1 and version is not the lastest, wich version should i use in order so everything will goes well and that his navi wont become non functional.

The main goal is : I have BMW DVD navigation europe 2006-1 and i want that to work in his car.

Is that dvd compatible with all MKs? or not?

Thanks guys!

Again: v26 does NOT contain any NEW software for MK1, MK2 and MK3 so loading v26 in an MK3 already at software 3-1/63 NOTHING will happen!
On each v.XX-cd there is different software for all 4 MKx-systems!

Geez, is this really so hard to understand?

For MK1 v26 contains the same version that v24.1 already had.
For MK2 v26 contains the same version as that v21 already had.
For MK3 v26 contains the same version as that v22 already had.
For MK4 v26 contains the new software-release 4-1/60

No, you _can_ use the v26 but the software-version for MK1 will be the same as with v24.1!
