Question Noob question.

First, let me say hi to all. This is my first post and I am a new member. I have always been a "Mercedes" person and just brought my first BMW about two weeks ago. I picked up a 2006 X5 4.8iS with about 30,000 miles. I transferred the existing warranty and had my first dealer visit at Pace BMW in Portchester NY. The experience has been pleasurable so far and I luv the car.

Now, here is my first question after several days and hours of reading. I wanted to see what version of my nav DVD i had and when I ejected the disk, I realized that I had a copied nav disk (verbatim disk with no writing) after searching, I came to realize that it is possible to customize the splash screen and update the firmware. So, gor a 2006 X5 4.8is (production date is Oct of 2005), what hardware nav do I have (MKIV I hope)? What is the newest nav DVD available and is there a step-by-step to tell me how to update firmware for my system (what types of disk to use for firmware and nav DVD + or - disks?

Sorry for the n00b questions but I have a headache from all the posts that I have read with no solid answer for my specific veh.

Thanks to all.

P.S. Will changing the firmware affect my factory bluetooth set up?

Here is an answer to what Nav unit you have...it should be MKIV, also updating the OS is on here as well, downloading the image and writing to a CD is not on that how to, search this forum:
http://www.x3world.com/articles/all-...ystem-faq.html

It also looks like (from Navteq) BMW - North America Map DVD - High Version 2009.1 is the latest version. See link (don't know if it will work) http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...llProducts=YES

Before you start, go into Settings and look at the top right corner of the screen. That's the software version. First digit = Mark #
Last 2 digits = software version

eg, using the latest software version as examples:
Mk3 = 3-1/63
Mk4 = 4-1/100 (displays only last 2 digits of 100)

If you don't have latest SW then load standard BMW software before you start playing.

Upgrading nav SW will not impact bluetooth
