I am sure this is a redundant question, but I am a new X5 owner(2001 Oxford Green 4.4i) which i love, but it has the smaller screen nav setup. Am I able to upgrade to the wider screen DVD-based nav? Where would I buy parts, and I am definitely not going to install it myslef, so would afternarket people do it and it work authentically? Live in the DC area. Thanks for any replies to this.

You could read this article or print it out and give it to whomever you want to do the retrofit.

This article is from the xoutpost.com. It pays to look.

Check out the guys at CarTrendz in Mt. Vernon on Route 1. www.cartrendz.com
They seem to be a good shop and one of the guys there actually drives an X5.

You might want to read that article before asking further questions to avoid being slammed left and right here

The screen is a seperate thing from the actual Nav computer. Read those articles on the home page, they should answer any questions you might have. There's also some DIY instructions there which take a lot of the guesswork out of installing one of those yourself.

The guys at CarTrendz told me they'd be happy to do any labor I couldn't do when I was asking about upgrading my 4:3 to a 16:9, but they of course would not warranty any parts they did not sell to me.

Over closer to you, there's Big Boys Toys on Oxon Hill Rd, I think they do custom installs too. Check them out sometime, and let ME know what kind of estimate you got.
