Nav Upgrade thread!
I have done a fair amount of searching and cannot find a step by step instructions set on how to upgrade my nav system. I have a MK-III running V16 software. I want to upgrade to V24.1 - I read somewhere I needed a key-disk (Which I believe I managed to d/load) but for the life of me I cannot find the instructions on how to perform the actual upgrade. Can someone please point me in the right direction! |

I'm sure Jeff (UCrewX5) will tell you, as I found out last weekend during my Nav upgrade drama, you don't need v24.1 on an MkIII, v22 or v23 will do just fine. Having just done the upgrade on my MkIII, I'll be happy to lend a hand as well.
Good luck. JV

This is what I found in the NAV FAQ article under Navigation Section. Are you sure you were looking at the right article? If you scroll almost to the end of the article, you'll find it
======================= To upgrade your navigation software, follow these steps (see http://www.bimmernav.com/software.htm for additional tips) 1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode. 2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit. 3. Put in the V "XX" disk into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically. (note: for MKIII systems that are on version 17 or lower, the system may ask you to insert the Key CD. If so, insert the KeyCD and then follow the on-screen instructions. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE MKIII) 4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly. ======= |

I was not looking at the right article! (Way too many windows open on my screen!)
I just did the upgrade! - it worked 100% - I upgraded to V23 as I was told that there is no benefit for a Mk-III above that. Thanks for all the help guys! I just bought an iPOD and the Ice-Link Plus system from Dension! - I will be installing that this week-end! I hope it goes as well as the nav upgrade went |

Thats not a bad idea! - any idea on costs?
One thing I do not like with the V23 that I installed! - the map is not driver orientated I.E in my old version if i turned a corner the map used to turn as well....... Is there a setting for this or not? or am I missing something! |

I saw some new MkIVs on ebay for about $850. I'll be doing that soon too, getting the DVD based Nav. JV

Found it! - Just had to mess a little with the menu system- I noticed it was not on the main menu system but from within the nav system, there is the option to have the map either North or Car direction! - Now once I get my iPOD installed I will really be a happy camper!
