Dull screen suddenly flickers.
Hi everyone.Bought a late 2002 spec X5 for my wife in 2007.The screen was faulty when I bought it.I always planned on getting another screen,but never got round to it.The screen displayed all the information,however anything on it appeared dull and was difficult/impossible to read at night.Today the screen started flickering and appeared nice and bright,as it should be,but it constantly flickers.Does anybody know how to solve this please.I have done a search and could not find a specific resolution.Many thanx for your help in advance.

check the connections and cables (likely the ones back in the rear electronics bay where the nav drive is located)

Thanx for the reply mate.Last weekend I had a job replacing the rear driving and brake light bulbs due to bad contacts.Maybe I triggered/touched something that may have "awakened" the screen.I was going to check the connections tomorrow,but thought I would have to remove the screen to check this.

I would only check the connections behind the screen after first checking the ones in back (since they are easier to access)

Yeah mate.I was going to check the back first after your advise.Will have to check on here to see which wires are related to the screen.

Just trace the cables coming out of the back of the nav computer, as that is what drives the video display.

Thanx for the link mate.I will have another go at sorting this soon as I haven't had any luck yet.I do suspect that it is either a loose/faulty connection.From all the info that I have gathered it could also be the TMC so I will be disconnecting that as well

Just a quick update.Finally got round to have another look at sorting the screen today.I disconnected all the connections at the back of the satnav unit in the boot and also all the connections to the Trafficmaster system under the spare wheel.Didn't seem to make any difference.When I wanted to start the car,the battery was flat,yet again,argggh!Anyway,got my faithfull old Supra to jumpstart the X5 and oohh wheee...For the first time since I bought it in May 2007 the screen was actually working as it should.Later on with a second startup the screen was bright as it should be ,but with a 9 sec flicker as described somewhere on this forum.This seems to have disappeared now phew.Sorry for the long post,but I'm so excited after sorting the screen and would like to thank all of you guys for pointing me in the right direction.I almost bought a new screen as well
