Well after finally getting all the bits (thanks to those who helped and advised on this site
)I, today tried to finish my retrofit. i have the BM54 installed, the MK4 Nav, the retrofit wiring loom and the 16:9 screen I connected it all up and plugged back in the power, the redlight comes on, on the MK4, the screen has power, but nothing shows on the screen. I tested all the connections etc but still a blank screen, can anyone help as to what I now need to check to get it working, or to see if one of the units isnt woking.... Thanks Jon |

Look for a sticker on the Mk4 that states the chassis number of the previous vehicle it came from, it will also show BMWx01S, where x =M for Mono or C for Color. You need BMWC01S However the sticker doesn't confirm what is actually loaded, you need to ideally read out the output mode using my NavCoder software and then if it is wrong, NavCoder can reprogram it to colour output. NavCoder can be found here: http://www.siegenthaler.co.nz/NavCod...s/NavCoder.zip Also, are you sure the Mk4 has an OS loaded? No OS will also provide the same symptoms. Try loading an OS by inserting the latest OS disc, which is V32 And of course, you must make sure that the nav is connected to the screen - if your wiring loom was for nav and TV, then it will have 2 x blue plugs - one for video module, one for nav. If you have no video module fitted, you need to then connect the video module blue plug to the nav. |

Thanks for the help
There is no sticker on the MK4 that shows what you advised the main sticker on the MK4 shows the following: 6590 9 154 053-01 145067 10 03 -03 BMWNRR202-59 A2C53253222 FD 00 0002168 HW:1.0.1 / SW: 8.0 I downloaded the V32 Software and inserted the CD, it read the CD for about 5 - 10 mins then it ejected it, but still nothing on the screen. The MK4 has 2 connectors on the back, one blue and one a bit like maroon, which I have plugged a connector into each, which are the same colour I dont have a TV module My 16:9 screen has a blue and white connector on the back, and I have plugged the same colour connectors into these. I have also downloaded the NavCoder software, but i dont have an iBus connector, so I have ordered one from reslers.de Is there anything else I can try from the info above or will I have to wait to try the NavCoder software and see what that says.. thanks again for your kind help Jon |

Sounds like either a) coded for mono or b) wiring loom is for nav + TV, and you are missing the TV module Quote:
If not, I'd then say the nav is coded for mono, and a recode with NavCoder will fix it. |

Thanks for the reply
I am not sure what type the wiring loom is, I bought it on Ebay, here is the item: BMW E53 E39 x5 navi wirings wth Alpine amplifier on eBay, also Monitors, DVD Players Monitors, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 18-Feb-09 21:57:29 GMT) I have ordered the Ibus from reslers.de, and he emailed me to say it will be shipped tommorow (which I was quite impressed with), i will then buy the NavCoder software and try that, if that doesnt work then I suppose i will have to buy a TV module Can you tell what the wiring loom is from the ebay site ?? Thanks for your help again.... |

The photo on the ebay ad clearly shows connectors labelled as "TV TUNER"
Therefore, the loom is for nav and TV If you have no TV tuner, you need to connect the TV tuner blue connector to the nav. Then you will have a picture |

I connected the Mk4 to the blue TV connector, which is under the spare wheel, and it worked, screen came on, Nav worked etc etc, so thanks for the great help.... The only problem I have now is that wire wont reach to where the MK4 needs to be fitted above the CD changer, will I have to cut and extend the wires ???? or is there another option??? I also just now need to wait for my iBus connector to be delivered, then I can buy the navCoder software and get everything finished Thanks again for your help Jochen, its greatly appreciated Jon |

Options:
a) fit the TV tuner and enjoy TV in your car :-) 2 types available: analogue only, or "hybrid" analogue+digital. b) get some connectors from BMW and make an adapter to join the white and blue TV tuner connectors together c) Unravel the wiring loom so the TV tuner blue connector can reach the nav |
