Unhappy No GPS option in Menu after update to V29.1

hi all,

i'm newbie here and this is my 1st post in this forum, bought an X5 2001 4.4i a month ago. last week i have updated my SatNav to V29.1 (from another member's image) unfortunately, while the Nav was still updating, i've switched off the ignition after 15mins thinking that it was not doing anything since the screen is blank and flashing sometimes. turned the ignition on again and got me a new menu layout but no 'GPS Navigation' the Nav update CD was stuck in the drive, but managed to remove it by opening the unit. i've noticed that the power led on GPS unit is no longer working as it's always off.
searched hard on this forum but couldn't find solution...
Can anyone help pleeeeeeeease...

cheers,
royemaun

Hi Essam,

I based here in Riyadh. Is there a chance to recover my GPS Navigation?

Thanks,
royemaun

Try with a standard BMW image

For the Mk3 the image must be Mode2/Form1 otherwise you will crash the Mk3 (again!)

You say it has no power ... I am not sure if loading the OS and the Key CD again would bring it back to life ... I have both CDs and can send them to you, or you can search for them here

As Kiwi said, they must be in the MKIII format

Question

yes! i have recovered my GPS Nav option using a V31 (mode2/form1) image.
question though, how can i keep the V29.1 design/layout? i kinda like it than V31. does V32 change the Menu layout?

Thanks again...

The software on V29.1 and V31 is identical for the Mk3 - in fact all OS discs from V22 and newer all contain the same Mk3 software: 3-1/63

The only reason menu layout would have changed is if you originally had older Mk3 software - at around 3-1/30 the menu layout changed.

3-1/63 was the last every software version released by BMW for the Mk3.
From V22 onwards, no newer software for the Mk3 was produced.

I strongly recommend you use 3-1/63 (on V22 OS disc or later).

V22 OS disc was released in August 2003.

How did you manage to recover it? I tried to upgrade my MKII firmware with what ended up being a Mode1 rather than Mode2 disc. After that it lost the GPS in the menu and the screen menu is back to a really dated looking font. I spat the old CD in but I can't load the firmware again with a Mode2 disc. I don't get any options when I put the disc in.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Sash,

Make sure that your disc is burned in mode2, i used a v32 mode2/form1 image downloaded from this site. and supposed you have the correct cd, just turn the ignition to position 1 and wait for some time (1-2 mins) then insert the cd and wait till it automatically loads the new firmware and you should see an upgrade screen bla bla bla. if still nothing happens, turn it off or 0 remove the key and wait 5 mins this time turn the engine on and wait for the menu to load (assuming you have taken out the cd already) then load the cd back. keep trying these combination and you should be able to recover the GPS... Good luck
BTW, i now have the latest logo, the roundel with BMW from v32 cd...

cheers,
