Can VR module be added to '06 X5 w/ BT Assist?

My '06 X5 is equipped with Bluetooth / Assist and phone-only voice recognition capability.

I would like to expand the VR to include the complete voice command set offered by the "84 41 6 913 352 Voice recognition module".

So, 3 questions...

1. Can this module be installed alongside what's already there? The BT works great and I would rather not remove anything if possible.

2. Is the procedure the same as described in the "Voice Recognition w/ the Navigation System" given that the vehicle already has some VR capability?

3. Has anyone done this with an '05 or '06?

Thanks,
- Rob

I added the VR module to my March '05 build 2005 X5 4.4. It also had bluetooth/assist. To be honest, I never checked to confirm whether it had phone-only VR prior to installing the module. I had the dealer install it.

Works great with all phone, nav and note functions working perfectly.

Great - it's the NAV function in particular that I want. I asked the dealer about it and their tech said that the VR option is not available so it cant be done ???? Doubt that.

Thanks,

Are you sure about this? I was told that VR is already part of the 2006 X5 package. Not just phone but complete VR. When you press the talking head symbol on your steering wheel do you hear a beep? If you do you have it.

Positive, at least for Canadian builds.

The VR that comes with the '06 is limited to the phone functions. If I say HELP it responds with the available command set, limited to phone operations. It dosn't recognize commands like NAVIGATION and such.

Just trying to verify. If you push the talking head button does it beep?

Yes, it does beep on pressing the VR button on the steering wheel (after about 2 -3 seconds).

Thanks,

Then you do not need a VR installation. That beep says it's installed. Now you need to repost your question so that someone can help you operate it. Or troubleshoot the problem. Or you could consult the Manual. http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...%20Control.pdf

...just checked again. The VR included with '06 BT/Assist telematics is limited to phone commands only. I had a '05 745 for a while last year and while it would respond to HELP NAVIGATION etc. the VR supplied with my vehicle supports phone commands only.

This is what HBERBOUT123 describes here...
http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...mw-assist.html

What I'd like to find out is if anyone has successfully added the stand alone VR module alongside the BT/Assist module in a late model X5 (preferably an '06).

Interesting. I saw somewhere on ths board that as of July 05
all X5's came with the VR installed. Guess I made a boo boo.
