MKIII to MK4

Hi All,

I've dredged all the forums and picked up most of the info I need but still have a couple of Q's...

Basically, I recently sold my E46 M3 which had the Mk4 sat nav/tv etc and bought a 2003 Range Rover Vogue which of course has the almost identical sat nav & tv screen in the dash but alas with the MKIII unit in the boot.

From what I've read it's fairly easy to swap out the MKIII unit for an MK4 DVD (and yes I did keep my 2009 map dvd from the E46 M3 :-))

Are there any pointers as to where to get the Mk4 unit? I've seen 2 on ebay but they have different part numbers:

6590 6 951 629-01
Or
6590 6 942 908-03

What's the difference between these 2? Both look to be the rack boot mounted DVD Nav units.

I've already downloaded and burnt the V31 software to disc (with the range rover logo!) ready for when I get one.

Just wanted to check what's the right way to go and any pitfalls I should look out for? NB - I kept my IBUS interface from my BMW and still have Navcoder so am familiar with using both if necessary.

What functions from Navcoder would I be able to use? Will I be able to disable the TV in motion piece like I was able to on my E46 M3?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers

Darren

Both parts are essentially the same. BMW updated the part numbers every time that a new OS version came shipped from the factory. So far, we have not identified any hardware or application differences between the various MKIV part numbers.

As far as NavCoder coding of the MKIV in a RR, I have no clue. That would be new territory for me.

Yes it should be a straight swap mate, the I-bus and navcoder will still work and you should be able to enable the TV.

Once you realise a RR is just a X5 in a different skin, you realise that the nav systems are identical, and NavCoder can do everything...

Thanks all for the updates so far (plus thanks to Jochen offline!).

I will be putting my Mk4 dvd unit into the RR this weekend and then updating bits as needed using Navcoder!

Just one question I've seen muted around on all sorts of forums is what OS update to go for. I took one off here that's V31 with a RR splash screen - is that sufficient for me? Then I found a website here (BMW MK4 SAT NAV DVD DISC HIGH ROAD MAP 2010 NAVIGATION UPDATE) that's showing a v32.2 as being the latest software.

So couple q's:

What one gives day/night mode?
What one allows 7 digit postcode?
What one allows speed camera POI's?

Cheers!

Darren

Darren, that site is not an OEM bmw site mate. ignore the version numbers, they have made up the version numbers so that its will go over a an OEM v32.

You will need a HIGH map disc and an OEM one will not have any of the options you want, eg cameras and 7 digit.

The nightmode is a function of the OS not the map.

The modded RR OS that you got off here should be OK and I think it has the nightmode stuff and the alert hacks. but if you show me the link I can confirm that.

I see that you are in Brighton mate, where abouts (Pm me if you don't want to broadcast it), I may be able to help.

Hey,

The one (v31) I downloaded is located on this post:

http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...nge-rover.html - just look near the bottom of the 1st page of the post.

I'm in Saltdean, Brighton! I think we conversed some time back on here when I was having issues with my E46 M3 sat nav (which just turned out to be the gps antenna which i persevered and did myself for £6 :-)) As you see I now have a RR 2003 Vogue.

A busy weekend ahead - got to swap out the MKIII unit with the MKIV I have sitting next to me, update the OS and then do some navcoder tweaks :-) (Thanks Jochen!)

Ah right, thats a vanilla OEM v32 with the RR splash.

I can make you a fully spec'd one with that splash (or the land rover oval)? if you want.

Right, I remember now, how you liking the RR mate? bet you were glad to have it, what with this weather we've been having.

Make sure you do the power down mate (on the mk3) as it will tank and not come back if you don't.

I'll PM you the procedure.

That would be great if you can make up a fully spec'd V32 with that splash screen (that was included in the V31 link I sent you)...

Will I be able to download it?

Cheers once again!
