analogue to Digital TV conversion?
I have an E53 with SatNav and tv but here in Aust we are closing down the analogue TV transmitters and the TV stations will be broadcasting a digital signal only. I'm looking for a conversion box/tuner (or whatever) that will allow me to continue watching TV in my car. Do any of the DVD player add-ons do a digital tuner too, and if they do; will they work in Oz?? Thanks David |

On the BMW TV system, you do exactly the same as you do at home:
At home: add a digital TV receiver, connected to the house antenna and to the TV AV-IN In the car: add a digital TV receiver, connected to the car antenna and to the TV AV-IN In the car, you will need the following features: 1. 12V power source 2. Remote control IR-eye 3. Antenna connector adapter and DC-blocker That's all |

thanks for the info. I assumed that this might be the case, but I've never seen a car version of a digital set top box.
I assume there'll be the 12 volt 'camping' version maybe for tents and trailers and so on on the market, but who makes one for cars? If they exist, are they small - like the dice ipod unit - and can they be hidden somewhere??? It'd be nice to have an 'integrated' look to it all. BTW KiwiJochen - do you have a NZ connection in your family? Cheers |

If you are using the same system as Europe, search for DVB-T 12V on eBay. Veba make them, along with dozens of Chinease suppliers. Note that the antennas are tuned to a slightly different frequency for DVB-T, and you may need 2 additional antenna to get a good signal.

I was looking for the same thing, however I dont want to go to AV-IN and have another remote.. I want my analogue BMW tv tuner to receive digital signals and like the analogue change channel on the monitor like normal ..
IS THAT POSSIBLE in any way with some kind of hardware? Analogue to digital converter or something? |

If you are going to DVB-T then there is a BMW Hybrid tuner to directly replace to analogue one. Prices are circa £450 used.

Cryptic. Who is MPEG2 and will this prevent the OP from getting digital TV?

MPEG2 is the codec decoder and yes I think the OEM hybrid is mpeg2.
Only the OEM hybrid DVt tuner will work as OEM, with all the screen buttons etc.
