Not sure where to get the Speed sensor from and which wire it is!

Thanks

You can get the accurate speed sensor signal from the ABS unit, or from the instrument cluster, of from the EDC control unit (e39 or e38: EDC is in the boot)

thanks again for replying kiwijochen, but im really stuck at this.
i know the reverse signal should come off the reverse light and (as i dont have EDC) i can get a less accurate speed signal from the radio. but despite this knowledge i seem to have been unable to connect the right wires

can you spell it out for me as to which wires needed to be connected to which?
colors or photos would really help.

im sorry if this has been explained before!

The retrofit instructions "spell it out" very clearly.

On that secondary cable that won't connect to your car there should be two wires, one goes to the reverse light which is the *white* wire i think, and the other one goes to the EDC... however i don't know where that is so i can't help any further

connected white with yellow to reverese and the sensor menu tells me when the car is in reverse.
im 90% sure i have the correct wires connected for the speed sensor but it still sits at 0
am i rigth in thinking it should dispay + or - when moving / reversing or should it display a number?

should it display somehting other than 0 as i have it connected to the average speed pulse on the radio? perhaps thats the issue.
any other thoughts?

fwiw, ive connected the yellow with red wire from the back of the sat nav to the white with black wire (pin 10 if i have it correct) on the back of the radio.

the average speed is being calculated correctly on the OBC (cleared it and it came up instantly)

It is OK, but only use this signal if you cannot find 8or are too lazy to run wires) to the proper wheel pulse signal.

Why? Average speed pulse is nowhere near as accurate as instantaneous speed pulse.

Yeah but my point is: both work, but one is better than the other.
